About this property

Picture perfect Appletree Cottage is a semi-detached, thatched cottage set within the Dartmoor National Park, nestled beneath Haytor in the very pretty and peaceful hamlet of Higher Brimley. From the rose filled cottage garden with its thatched summerhouse and apple trees, are outstanding far-reaching views towards Bovey Tracey and the Teign Valley. Inside, the cottage is filled with character and period features, including thick cob walls, original leaded windows, beamed ceilings and stone fireplaces housing two woodburning stoves. Perfect for a romantic getaway or a break with friends. Views over the garden from the window seats in the lounge are just lovely, and, in the very well equipped kitchen there is a large farmhouse table for enjoying meals together. Also on the ground floor is a cosy snug, and the bathroom and on the first floor are two comfortable double bedrooms, one of which has a king-size bed.

Nestled in the valley of the River Bovey is this stunning little town known as "The Gateway to the Moor". Bovey Tracey got its name from the meandering river that flows through it, with 'Tracey' representing the family that were the lords of the manor after the Norman Conquest. It has a great history with heavy involvement in the English Civil War which resulted in the name of the town's pub "The Cromwell Arms" which serves real ale and good food. The history of the town can be discovered in the Heritage Centre, with the Dartmoor National Park Authority also nearby. Bovey Tracey offers a selection of shops and cafés along with the stunning Mill Marsh Park and the Dartmoor Whisy Distillery which offers guided tours. The town comes just outside of the Dartmoor National Park which provides seemingly endless walking and cycling paths along with incredible scenery. The market town of Newton Abbott sits nearby, offering a fantastic day out with charming buildings and a good range of amenities. The beautiful city of Exeter is also within driving distance, and if a day at the seaside is what you're after then take a trip to Teignmouth.

The best equipped and cleanest property I have stayed in. We loved all the different seating areas outside, you could move around the garden with your tea and cake as the sun moved. A lovely touch was when the owner rang to check that everything was okay and to see if we had any problems. We would most certainly return for another stay.

Extremely well equipped. The owners couldn’t have been more helpful, and the welcome pack was much appreciated. Only the weather was less than perfect, but the coziness of the cottage made up for all the rain!

It was very comfortable and equipped with absolutely everything we needed for a truly home-from-home feel. A good internet connection too! The owners gave us a lovely welcome with a gift of wine, chocolates and flowers on the kitchen table, milk in the fridge and even a phone call on our first evening to make sure we had arrived safely and had everything we needed. The location provided a great base for exploring Dartmoor with a wide variety of interesting historical places to visit, lovely walks at nearby Parke NT and beautiful moorland scenery to admire.
