About this property

Dittisham 2.6 miles. At the heart the village of Cornworthy, you will find the charming Court Prior Cottage. Beautifully renovated whilst maintaining its original charm through exposed beams and traditional woodburner, this cottage makes for a fabulous country retreat for a family travelling with their four-legged friends.

Court Prior Cottage is a perfect base to explore the gorgeous countryside on your doorstep. A five-minute stroll will take you to a tributary of the River Dart, with river walks to neighbouring villages of Tuckenhay (with its lovely riverside pubs) and on to Ashprington where you will find the Durrant Arms which makes an appearance in the Good Beer Guide and Sharpham vineyard. All the pubs in the area are very happy to accommodate dogs, muddy boots and children of all ages. The Elizabethan town of Totnes, just 4 miles away, is the perfect place for sourcing fresh organic foodstuff, with a fine selection of coffee shops and independent stores along with it very own castle and guildhall.

Thoughtful touches at Court Prior help you relax into your holiday, the welcoming porch lends itself to storing your crabbing buckets, buckets and spades, wellies and dog leads (if you have forgotten anything do ask, we have lots of spares). The open-plan living space with comfy sofas and striking wood burning stove is a great place to read your favourite book or borrow one of the house books that you will find here, and as well as these there is a good collection of board games to challenge the most competitive amongst you.

The cottage’s beautiful farmhouse kitchen, with stone worktops and stunning pine cabinets provides everything you need to store and transform the fresh organic ingredients sourced from the local Totnes markets into evening supper, you can serve your meals at the dining table or alfresco at the generous table in the cottage garden.

Return to the warmth of the cottage, where you can venture up the staircase to the first-floor and discover three well-appointed bedrooms, each boasting their very own en-suite. The first of the bedrooms is a roomy king-size double decorated with calming neutral hues and traditional oak furniture, giving a real country feel. This bedroom also benefits from an en-suite bathroom where guests can indulge in a relaxing soak in the bathtub, or a separate walk-in shower. Just next door lies a pretty 4"6 double with crisp white bedding and refreshing blue accessories and an ensuite shower.

The popular Cornworthy village pub, The Hunters Lodge, is a few minutes’ walk from the property and a circular walk near to the 14th Century church will take you on a scenic stroll to the 18th-century Coaching Inn the Maltsters Arms which lies on the banks of Bow Creek. For more energetic pursuits embark on an action-packed adventure canoeing along the River Dart, cycle on “route 28” which passes through Cornworthy, or head into the maritime town of Dartmouth where you can stroll along the embankment and explore the cobbled streets lined with galleries, restaurants and boutiques. The nearest blue flag beach, Blackpool Sands is around 20 minutes’ drive, with Bantham Beach, renowned for its surf break 35 minutes’ drive, both have lifeguard services and café facilities during the summer season.

To make your time at Court Prior just that little bit more relaxing, your hosts next door offer a professional catering service to the cottage; this can range from a family ‘on arrival’ meal through to a celebratory feast, simply enquire before your arrival.

Court Prior Cottage provides a fantastic setting for your next family holiday to the South Hams.

Alternatively if you want an active holiday visiting places, seeing things, eating out etc it’s still the place for you. There is so much to do and see on the doorstep. Penny and Kit are the most welcoming of hosts and have provided a wealth of information in the cottage to help you enjoy your stay. Can’t thank you enough, we came back fully recharged.

Hosts Penny and Kit were so welcoming and accommodating, they provided a fabulous welcome hamper of milk, eggs, butter, wine, fruit, plus the homemade lemon drizzle cake, bread and preserves were scrumptious. Beautiful highly appointed immaculate cottage with a lovely enclosed garden which was perfect for our dog Molly. It’s a excellent base for exploring South Hams. We had a fantastic week. The peace and quiet and the location made a welcome change to escape for a relaxing break.
