Torcross was the training ground for US Army forces preparing for the D-Day invasion in World War II. Look out for the American Sherman tank which stands beside the car park, as it was lost at sea in 1944 and recovered in 1984, and now stands as a reminder to the lives that were lost. You’ll find the resorts of Dartmouth and Salcombe a short drive away, and both offer a choice of fine restaurants, cafes, bars, unique shops and attractions.
