About this property

Located in a short, narrow cul-de-sac, Crab Cottage is only a few minutes’ walk into Salcombe and enjoys good views across Island Street towards Batson Creek and Snapes Point. Head in to Salcombe and catch the foot passenger ferry across to the sandy beaches of East Portlemouth, or why not take the children crabbing on the quayside? Salcombe is home to a fantastic array of boutique shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants… and with a wonderful bakery a short walk from the property, Crab Cottage is well located for enjoying all that Salcombe has to offer!

A set of a steps lead up from Croft Road to the ground floor lobby and sitting room, which has been comfortably furnished, featuring a wood-burning stove. The kitchen/dining room is deceptively spacious with a table seating six, whilst a door from the kitchen leads out to the raised terrace. There is also a cloakroom.

There are three bedrooms in total. The master has a King-size bed and views towards Batson Creek, plus an en suite shower room. The twin bedroom has two single beds, whilst a second twin room has two smaller 2'6 single beds. There is also a family bathroom with whirlpool bath and corner shower.

To the rear of the property is a raised terrace with table and chairs. ‘There is also off-road parking directly outside the cottage for one small sized car (approx. 4m x 1.8m) Please note this is accessed by parallel parking on a narrow road. If you have a larger car, additional parking is available in the nearby long-stay Creek Car Park (at additional cost).’

This three-storey property is ideal for those looking for high quality accommodation within quick, level access of Salcombe - a superb base for a family or group of couples, looking for a delightfully furnished holiday home.

Salcombe is a popular destination for walkers and families looking for a holiday by the sea and was once a major port. There are two pretty beaches within a short distance, North Sands and South Sands and further on is the National Trust property Overbeck’s where you can wander through the subtropical gardens. Why not have a more adventurous day and try out the watersports available on the estuary including surfing, kayaking or a more leisurely boat trip? Whilst staying in Salcombe you must take advantage of the locally sourced seafood which is served in many of the restaurants, pubs, cafés and delicatessens. The southern tip of Devon provides some spectacular scenery and picturesque vistas with a number of sandy beaches, lovely villages with thatched cottages and some fantastic opportunities for walking, including the South West Coast path.

Parking was not a problem this week, as no one was next door. I parked outside the cottage all week and no trouble getting into space with a small Honda. There are two local carparks, Shadycombe (max 14 hours) and Creek car park which has a 24 hour car park. Most things were in the cottage that we needed. The cottage was warm enough in the day, but at times it did feel a little chilly at night (October). The radiators in the bathrooms, on the first floor and loft spaces were easy to use with the instructions. The living spaces and the bedrooms could do with some blankets, on sofas and ends of beds to use in the evenings. We had to use the additional duvets from the other beds for the bedrooms. The oven worked a treat, just needed a light as I think it has gone. We enjoyed Salcombe.

We were able to park in the cottage's parking space with our Yaris cross (please note other reviews). The kitchen was well equipped and the cottage lovely and clean and welcoming. It was warm on a chilly and wet spring day. The two twin beds in the front bedroom were very firm. We enjoyed our stay a lot. Thank you.

Plus great location! BUT its a shame the owners didn't listen to past feedback of the king size bed being so uncomfortable! There appeared to be a ridge down the centre & also sloped down on one side - very odd. So from lack of sleep after lovely days out - it gave a bitter taste to the stay. We had to leave a couple of days earlier to get home for some rest (such a shame). The parking space definitely will only fit a mini.
