You can also enjoy breathtaking walks on the South West Coast Path which takes you along some of the most unspoilt coastline in the country. ...holiday in South Devon for a young family. We found the lodge in immaculate condition, with bright, clean and comfortable décor and equipped with everything you would need for your stay. Salcombe Retreat is in a quiet, rural location outside of Salcombe itself, but there is a local shop in nearby Malborough and the Soar Mill Cove beach and hotel is not far away. We preferred the beaches in Salcombe and East Portlemouth as they were clean and sandy and offered good paddling opportunities for a toddler! The area catered well for young families as in addition to lovely beaches there were lots of child-friendly restaurants, plus the attraction of boat trips and steam trains in the vicinity. The coast is very beautiful and you could find a different beach everyday if you wished. I would also imagine it would be a great location for walkers as the coastal path is on your doorstep. We would recommend the ferry from Salcombe to East Portlemouth, and the walk on to Gara Rock. We found the booking experience really efficient and the staff were helpful and friendly by phone. The sun was shining as well (although I'm not sure that can be guaranteed!) Submitted by Caroline on 15/09/2014
