Guests that stayed at this property said

Guests consistently describe the property as clean and well-maintained, with several reviews highlighting its tidiness and welcoming atmosphere. The high level of cleanliness contributes significantly to the comfort and enjoyment of their stays.

The property's location is frequently commended for its proximity to local amenities, scenic walks, and beaches. However, there is a mention of a permanently closed pub that was expected to be nearby, which suggests the need for updated information regarding local attractions.

The property is lauded for its well-equipped kitchen, games, and garden furniture. Some guests suggested improvements, such as clearer instructions for the house's amenities and updates on the listing regarding towels and pub availability.

About this property

Duffield is a modern, well-appointed detached house situated on the edge of the hamlet of St Ann’s Chapel, just three miles from the surf and sandy beaches of Bigbury-on-Sea. Inside, the property offers comfortable and spacious accommodation, providing the perfect base for a family celebration or a friends’ getaway. From the spacious hallway there is an elegant sitting room, with comfortable seating around an inset woodburning fireplace; and French windows leading to the terrace and garden beyond. A large contemporary kitchen, fully equipped with all the necessities required when catering for a large family or party, plus separate dining area that comfortably seats 10 and extends to sit 12. Off the kitchen, the large utility room is perfect for housing sandy dogs and wet-suits. In addition, there is a downstairs shower room, basin and WC. On the first floor, there are three brightly decorated bedrooms; a master bedroom with en-suite shower, plus a further two double bedrooms, all enjoying country views. Completing the first floor is a large airy family bathroom, with a sunken bath, separate walk-in shower, basin and WC. Located on the second floor, under the eaves, are two further bedrooms. A large family bedroom, comprising a king plus two single beds opposite a further double bedroom. To the rear of the property the enclosed lawn and terrace provide a large table, chairs and parasol, perfect for dining alfresco or stretching out with a good book and a sun-downer. There is plenty of storage space for surfboards and beach gear, a must being so close to the glorious Devon coastline. Try out surfing or paddle-boarding at Bigbury; and if you need a little help there's the popular surf school which can assist, offering lessons and/or equipment hire. For walkers, the South West Coastal Path is perfect, providing miles of scenic clifftop routes to explore, and pubs to recover in. For those feeling less energetic, a stroll across the beach to iconic Burgh Island, inspiring some of Agatha Christie’s tales, will blow away the cobwebs! The nearby golf course will challenge all abilities when the sea breeze blows. The nearby towns of Modbury, Kingsbridge and Salcombe are full of fascinating little independent stores, art galleries and restaurants. Fifty metres from the house, are the quintessential village shop, Holywell Stores, and local pub, The Pickwick Inn. With all this on your doorstep, Duffield is a fabulous family home in the heart of the South Hams area of Devon.

We had a great Christmas break , it was so close to the beach, shop and pub . The bedrooms are very roomy and comfortable. Bathroom is fantastic with the sunken bath . We only had a slight issue with heating, trying to override the timer and put the heating on earlier , but did manage to sort it eventually . We would love to come back again, hopefully next year . Thank you
