Windfalls, part of an ancient farmstead located on the edge of the pretty Kingsbridge/Salcombe estuary in South Devon was formally the hay barn with access from both the courtyard and the upper level. Set in six acres in a beautiful sheltered valley this ancient farmstead is now a small group of charming cottages that hug the side of a gentle slope that rambles down to the beautiful tidal creek of Goodshelter. Here you can wander through the apple orchard to the 800 ft private foreshore, row one of the dinghies provided round to South Pool to the pub (tides permitting!), barbecue by the old lime kiln on the foreshore and revel in the views of this dreamy stretch of water. The tiny hamlet of Goodshelter is just a mile from East Portlemouth, the lovely beaches of Millbay and Sunny Cove and from there, a ferry ride to the popular town of Salcombe. The cottages are alongside a courtyard shared with the owner’s home, overlook an orchard that slopes down to the Creek and provide very comfortable, well furnished accommodation. A Wayfarer sailing dinghy is available for use by the experienced as well as a couple of rowing dinghies, but entirely at guests' risk, (ask for details). Windfalls is an ideal spot. Between the two cottages and attached to Windfalls, although entirely separate, is what in family parlance has become known as The Love Shack! This little nest can be let at extra cost with either of the other cottages but not on its own. This delightful set of cottages can be a haven for couples, a great spot for families or indeed a wonderful place for a large family celebration, all in the most idyllic position. There is a shared laundry room accessed from the courtyard with chest freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing board. The gravelled courtyard in front of the cottages is enclosed with a five bar gate and provides ample parking. From here a pathway leads through the orchard to the creek. 

 

 

A lovely cosy cottage, wonderful trips down the river in the skiff and superb coastal walks and beaches.

Fantastic location, loved Mill Bay, the walks and just pottering around the garden. Our 3 year old had the time of his life. Thanks.

 

Accommodation:

Entrance from courtyard, open plan living/kitchen room, fully fitted kitchen, over, hob, microwave, fridge freezer, Lounge space, desk with chair, 2 x two seater sofas and armchair, TV/DVD dining table with bench seat, and dining chairs. Door into utility room, fitted units and coathooks, door into WC, with basin. Stairs to first floor, Twin bedroom, 2 x 3ft beds, Bathroom, bath with electric shower over, WC and basin. Single bedroom, 3 ft bed, Master bedroom with en suite shower room. 5 ft king size bed.

 

Outside:

Windfalls has no garden, but a table and chairs have been put on top of the lime kiln that overlooks the creek for guests' use. It is a bit of a trek through the orchard, but definitely worth it. 

The Love Shack

Windfalls or Apple Tree Cottage can be let combined with The Love Shack at an extra cost and availability permitting.

Accommodation:

From the courtyard, door into tiled hallway with a wrought iron spiral staircase to the bedroom under a pitched ceiling with a 5ft double bed, large sofa, a desk and hanging wardrobe. The shower room is off the hallway with shower, basin and WC.

Local Facilities: Beach 1 mile. Shops and pubs in Salcombe by passenger ferry 1 mile. Pub at South Pool 2 miles.

Please Note: At spring high tides (which occur throughout the year) and for one hour either side of high water, it may be difficult crossing the fords on the tidal road that accesses the property.  Tide Tables will be forwarded to guests with their travel directions.
