About this property

Barnstaple 5 miles. Next door to the owners’ house, one mile from the village of Muddiford, this charming cottage is just seven miles from the beautiful North Devon Coast. The cottage is in a peaceful rural setting overlooking a large garden, pony paddocks and private woodlands, making it an ideal holiday cottage for those looking for a quiet place to stay but with easy access to some of Devon’s best beaches. The large conservatory is a warm, bright room used for dining or relaxing whilst admiring the wonderful monkey puzzle tree and the colourful garden. This room leads into the cosy sitting room with electric fire and a soft comfy sofa, perfect for putting your feet up in front of the TV and watching a movie. There is a handy ground floor bedroom and bathroom plus two double bedrooms upstairs, one benefiting from an en-suite shower room. The enclosed rear patio is reached from the kitchen, and is a lovely sunny spot for eating your breakfast. The lawned area is enclosed by tall hedging, which makes it an ideal private area for relaxing and having an evening barbecue, whilst overlooking the paddock and woodland beyond. Guests are able to wander into the privately owned woods running alongside a stream, and full of roaming deer, interesting birds and badger tracks. A mile from the cottage is a 16th century coaching inn serving locally sourced produce and farther down the road is the wonderful Broomhill Sculpture Gardens with award-winning restaurant and host of the National Sculpture Prize, making a great day out. The wonderful North Devon beaches are only ten minute drives’ away and offer long sandy beaches such as Croyde, Saunton and Woolacombe. The harbour town of Ilfracombe has a lively heritage harbour where local boats are available for trips and fishing; or a special day out by ferry to Lundy Island plus a host of welcoming pubs and restaurants, Damien Hirst's Verity statue, and the quirky looking Landmark Theatre. A welcoming cottage in a quiet spot close to lovely beaches and coastal walks.

The busy coastal town of Barnstaple is situated at the mouth of the Taw Estuary. Barnstaple offers a pannier market, shops, restaurants and bars, along with two fabulous sandy beaches, which are popular with surfers and families.

Everything we needed was to hand. It was clean and comfortable and a great base for our excursions around North Devon. The cream tea on the day of our arrival was a lovely touch, I would highly recommend a stay here. Thank you Donna and Russ for a lovely week.

What more could you wish for ?

The house was beautifully clean, the beds very comfortable and the kitchen nice to use. Our only quibble is that the description of the property did not make clear that the car park was quite a hike from the cottage along a restricted path, which for pensioners like us is an important consideration. Perhaps it would be an idea to mention that the property might not be ideal for those with mobility issues. Having said that, Donna was a helpful and considerate hostess, providing us with a milk jug for our afternoon tea and a tray to carry things on, when we asked. She and her husband also very kindly helped us with our luggage on arrival. I would certainly recommend the property - but probably with the caveat for those with mobility issues.
