About this property

A magnificent barn conversion in a peaceful rural setting with open aspects across rolling countrysideA magnificent barn conversion in a peaceful rural setting with open aspects across rolling countryside

Riverside Cottage is a spacious barn conversion creating the perfect blend of old and new. The modern stylish furnishings give the perfect example of luxury living, while the natural slate flagstones ground floors, solid oak floors on the upper levels, vaulted beamed ceilings and large brick built fireplace with wood burning stove give you traditional beauty.

The Park Mill Farm cottages are situated in a magical riverside setting, less than a mile from Chulmleigh centre, with 20 acres of lush fields, woods and parkland where you are free to roam along with the abundant wildlife. From the viewing area on top of the hill with bench, to the river and lakeside areas, there is plenty to explore.

Chulmleigh is a Saxon hilltop village made up of thatched cottages, traditional pubs and a small collection of independent shops. There is a kids’ play park and dining options consist of three pubs in the town, a cosmopolitan restaurant and an Indian restaurant/takeaway.

Chulmleigh town centre is now a conservation area and the rich grassland found here is home to the largest population of otters in any natural area in England. The area provides access to an abundance of leisure activities including walking, cycling, fishing, golf and horse riding along with a number of historic houses and gardens in the vicinity.

Guests can enjoy the best of coast and country with Dartmoor and Exmoor nearby, as well as the North Devon coast in one direction and the cathedral city of Exeter in the other, all within an hour’s drive.

Just a short drive away from Park Mill Farm Cottages, you can experience the range of luxurious facilities on offer at Highbullen Golf and Country Club including tennis courts, a pool, fitness suite, and a range of spa treatments if you fancy being pampered.

Fishing at Park Mill Farm

"This is an accommodating little river in a lovely Devon valley where time really does seem to stand still."Mike Weaver, Trout And Salmon magazine, Feb. 2009.

There are two rivers (The Little Dart and Huntacott)  meandering through the grounds  and a private fishing lake where guests can enjoy free fly and coarse fishing and catch Carp,  Rudd, Chubb, Roach, Brown Trout and Tench. There is also complimentary fishing on both rivers where Brown Trout, Sea Trout and Salmon can be caught together with Coarse fish.
Riverside has a working fire and bags of wood can be purchased locally.

Riverside Cottage has a double connecting door opening into its neighbouring cottage, The Smithy, so that they may be booked together for larger groups. These doors will be securely locked if not requested.

For larger groups, all of the Park Mill Farm Cottages can be booked together to sleep 18.

Short breaks in Summer are available but will need to be confirmed with the owner first.

For any last minute bookings please note the beds will be configured as described and may not be able to be changed.

...and 6 had a wonderful holiday staying at Riverside Cottage at Park Mill Farm cottages in Chulmleigh. The only complaint was that it was over too quickly and no one wanted to go home. Amazingly well equipped cottage had everything we could possible want. The kitchen area looks small but again had everything we needed and more - we were still finding more equipment right up until the time we were packing up to leave. A real home away from home. Very comfortable and had the 'Goldilocks Factor' not too small, not too big but just right. Everyone had their own space for peace and quiet when required but the lounge/dining area was perfect for the family to be together, relax, eat and play board games. The boys said it was the best holiday ever and we adults had to agree. The garden, barbecue, and extended grounds were ideal and we had so much fun, playing and having a barbecued lunch in the garden one day, sitting by the lake whilst the boys tried to catch fish in their nets and then picnicking by the river and playing Frisbee/football/golf/badminton etc. another day. The location was great being in the heart of mid North Devon; the countryside is beautiful with some great local walks and easy access to the north coast about 1 hour by car. Park Mill Lane is a very narrow single track road leading up a steep hill to the village was a little daunting at first but we soon realised that we hardly ever saw another vehicle and when we did the driver was always friendly and kind. There were good places to eat in the village, the Red Lion and the Chulmleigh Tandoori to mention just two. There are also surprises like the Thai food van on a Tuesday evening, or the fish and chip van, where a wonderful take away meal may be purchased All in all a fantastic week. The owners Ray and Sue were friendly and helpful and very kindly provided a Devonshire cream tea on our arrival – such a lovely touch. Thank you so much. Submitted by Jill on 22/08/2016

...are very much with us. We had a beautiful week in an idyllic part of Devon. The cottage was very cosy, particularly with our evening log fires. I had a set of grandparents and my children with me for the week, all thoroughly enjoyed getting away from the norm!! Grandad and my son trooped off most mornings to the lake to fish and pulled fish after fish out of the lake right up to 15lb Carp, made their week!!! The cottage had everything we needed included a well-stocked welly boot room in the garden with a heap of board games to keep you amused at night. Would very much recommend the local pub, The Red Lion. Very friendly and great food, very reasonably priced. Will definitely go back again. Submitted by Melanie on 31/10/2015

...out with very good facilities. The owners were attentive but unobtrusive. The grounds to the property are beautiful, extensive and well maintained. Chulmleigh itself is a friendly village with good places to eat out. Would go again. Submitted by Mark on 18/08/2014
