    About this property

    Complimentary Welcome Hamper
A complimentary welcome hamper will be awaiting you on your arrival containing milk, tea, fresh coffee, bread, butter, eggs, juice, wine and cheese, along with other essential items to prepare a light snack or breakfast. There may be some regional variations.

S41823 was once a stable. Its original stalls, hay rack, troughs and loft have been retained and the necessary modern additions to create a luxury holiday cottage have been gently inserted. There are lime-washed walls and gentle lighting, along with the loft stair which allows an open aspect through to the apex of the roof. The terrace offers uninterrupted views down to the river and stretching several miles along and across the spectacular Yarty River valley with its pattern of small irregular fields and copses.
Enveloped by accessible woodlands, apple orchards and farm fields (where you can walk your dog), S41823 lies at the end of a long, shared drive, amidst hedge-lined winding lanes. Badgers, deer, rabbits, (40 species of moth were counted on a June evening) and various birds of prey are commonly seen. A weir pool with a salmon ladder lies along one of the many footpaths nearby and a bluebell wood is a short walk away.
The Shippen sleeping four guests is also available to book at this location. This holiday at a glance

"You do need to let people know, how difficult it is to get to and from cottage. We did not go out in the dark, as the roads to it were to narrow, and poor vis ability. Great location, with beautiful views."

"Very historical and full of character. We loved it but it would not be great if eyesight or mobility is not great. Wonderful hosts too. Fabulous if you like a remote getaway to chill."

"An absolutely wonderful little find :) Perfect for a romantic break in the Devon countryside. Close to farm shops to stock up and the property itself had everything we needed. There was even a welcome basket full of cheese, bread and wine. We felt like we were in the south of France. Couldn't recommend it enough."

"The property itself was excellent, but when we arrived we saw that the garden was not enclosed and our dog could've got out onto a road, albeit a quiet one and the garden was shared by another cottage let. This meant our dig had to be staked at all times in the garden. Also a laminated sign that was in the cottage made it clear that, whilst dogs were permitted, they should be on a lead at all times (despite the brochure saying that there was an orchard for the dog to use). This, I felt was not "dog friendly". As it was, the weather was quite poor so we stayed inside most of the time we were at the cottage, otherwise this would have been a massive downer on the trip. Had we known these facts, we would have booked a different place. (Previous property we visited was uber dog friendly) S41823 itself was beautiful, everything as cosy and romantic as advertised, just the dog issue let it down for us."

"Generally good and a lovely lady looking after the house - her homegrown watercress was a special treat. I do think the cleaning could have been more thorough - e.g. a lot of dust came out of the pillows when I plumped them and I felt the need to hot wash the towels and re wash the pillow cases before using them as they were a little bit smelly - laundered but not fresh. The cottage was otherwise acceptably. i didn't tell the lady as she was so nice and I didn't want to hurt her feelings. The location and views were amazing, except when the neighbours' children played outside my door - and the only view out and main light into the cottage - leaving me with the choice of my privacy - or natural light. Great parking."

"The cottage was absolutely perfect, in a really fantastic rural location with one other rentable cottage next to it but it was empty when we were there so had the place to ourselves. Lovely owners who couldn't do more and had equipped the cottage to the highest standard. You actually don't need to take anything for the first days breakfast etc. Greeted with homemade cake and bread, wine, chocs, cheese, milk etc. Homemade muesli too. Great walking, perfect with a dog. Easy access to coast or town. There are low beams upstairs so be careful. Even knowing they are there we did thump our heads a couple of time! Everything we needed and more, even a towel for the dog! A beautiful place worth visiting...."

"What a beautiful place to stay. Views over rolling hills. Beautiful long walks on the door step, home made cider from the barrels in the barn and a fantastic food hamper to welcome you. S41823 was very well equipped with everything you could wish for. We couldn't recommend this place more highly."

"We loved our stay - S41823 is really lovely with absolutely everything we needed. Amazing considering most cottages don't even have salt! Bed is so comfy, cottage really warm. Great for the dog too, lovely walks especially no2 circular walk from Dalwood. We ate in the Tuckers Arms which was incredible! Lyme Regis was very lovely too. With many thanks and now back to work! P.s I loved the cake :-)"

"S41823 is a very good property. Quality of fixtures/fittings very good & yummy xmas hamper. 2 sofas and large table seemed unnecessary for 2 people. Large bath was nice ( we both tall ) and bed comfy. Beautiful area despite torrential rain! Would consider booking here again."

"Booking online was easy and straight forward. The owner made us feel very welcome and we were both very impressed with the hamper, with home made soda bread and fruit cake. We were left to enjoy our stay in private with the security of knowing the owners were nearby if we had any problems with our accomodation. The accomodation was well equipped and very nicely furnished."

"Beautiful location if you just want to get away in a peaceful Devon countryside setting. The roads are a bit narrow and long on the drive up from the main roads but once you are there it's worth it. Lovely countryside views and nice walks."
