About this property

Complimentary Welcome Hamper

A complimentary welcome hamper will be awaiting you on your arrival containing milk, tea, fresh coffee, bread, butter, eggs, juice, wine and cheese, along with other essential items to prepare a light snack or breakfast. There may be some regional variations.

Situated 100 metres from the Wellhouse, Wellhayes Barn is close to the lake which does so much to define this property and enhance the wildlife that surrounds it. During the nesting season, the call of wild duck, and the splashes they make when coming into land on the water is a regular reminder of how close to nature you really are.

Originally built as a hay barn, Wellhayes Barn has enjoyed many different uses throughout its lifetime, many of which are reflected in its current incarnation as spacious and contemporary holiday accommodation. Much of the timber used in the conversion has been ‘upcycled’ from the original building. The building is entered via a heavy ledged and braced front door made from locally sourced timber which opens to reveal an open plan living, dining kitchen space complete with Aga and windows giving views over the lake to the forest and hills of East Devon beyond.

The location was lovely, the setting was very peaceful but the inside of the barn was not cleaned to the usual standards of a Rural Retreats holiday. The bedding especially, was thin , worn, and the actual duvet was unclean.. I did take photos of the duvet on my phone and Rural Retreats are investigating.

Beautifully converted barn, spotlessly clean and well equipped.
