    About this property

Relax in the luxury of this beautiful lodge, with mature gardens and backed by woodland it offers spacious accommodation and a touch of class.
Formerly the impressive gatehouse to Donington Hall, The Lodge is a unique Grade II listed, detached Tudor-style house set within ½ an acre of matured landscaped gardens with double electric gates. Retaining much of its original charm and character, The Lodge has been tastefully and sympathetically renovated to a high standard. Relax in one of the two living rooms with comfy sofas and a crackling open fire, enjoy a leisurely meal with family and friends around the large dining table seating eight guests, or even in the beautifully landscaped grounds. The property spans over three different levels and offers spacious accommodation with stunning interior design. Four double bedrooms are split over two floors with the master having a unique shower room that has to be seen! The bespoke designed kitchen with vaulted ceiling and exposed beams is a great place to cook and chat.
It is set within an idyllic country location, with adjoining woodlands to the rear which offer privacy and seclusion. Stone walls surround the property and a large private garden with Victorian wrought iron railings and mature trees enhance the grounds.
You will not be stuck for things to do if you can drag yourself away from this stunning home, as the National Trust Calke Abbey, a historic house within a 600-acre nature reserve, is close by, along with Staunton Harold Reservoir, with its yacht club and children’s activity play area. The largest inland marina in Europe is close by at Willington Mercia House, not to mention Donington Race Track, which houses the Grand Prix Collection in the museum and hosts major motor cycling and racing events, as well as the yearly Download Festival. Ideally situated on the edge of The National Forest, you are given access to a wealth of beautiful countryside suitable for walking, bird watching and cycling. Travel a little further and you are in the Peak District, with Chatsworth House and the historic towns of Bakewell, Matlock and Matlock Bath, where there is a plethora of things for people of all ages to enjoy. Shop 2 miles, hotel bar and restaurant ½ mile.

"Stunning home and gardens, easy to find and well furnished. Helpful hotel staff and easy check in and out. Wifi and internet access was limited and at some times did not work at all, which affected watching films or TV. I would perhaps have a DVD player for times the internet drops out as at points we couldn't watch anything or have music on. The decoration is beautiful and the house is warm, inviting and comfortable."

"We stayed at the lodge for a 60th birthday weekend. Upon arrival the lodge was freezing and there was no logs to start a fire and it did state on our email there should be enough logs for our whole stay. The central heating also didn't work. We called the help number and someone came to try to work the heating. Still didnt work ans promised he would be back in the morning with logs as we have brought some by this point. No one turned up. We called again and again. Finally the manager turned up at 5pm with logs but still couldn't get the heating on. Thr heating finally. Came on during the night and turned off in the morning. There was also not adequate kitchen items. Lady bird and fly infestation in the master bedroom. Not very clean as loads of large cobwebs everywhere. Also Netflix didn't work as it said too many people was already using it."

"Quirky interesting house that we loved. Downside at the weekend was constant background noise from Donington racecourse."

"Beautiful house with beautiful grounds - we went with our extended family and had an amazing time."

"Great stay at the cottage we spent a great week with family and friends. the house is very cute and very well designed. Very nice garden and the beds are great ! But .... There was no enough hot water for 2 showers so we had to wait 3 hours in between showers .... and nobody to deal with problem / no gate in the garden so we could not leave the dog out side / the great AGA stopped working during our stay so we could not cook / there is not enough bowls or containers to be able to cook or make cakes or appetizers .... / no dry wood for the fire so we had only wet logs in the garden / no check in was made so we did not know what was the wifi code we had to look for it but then the wifi worked very well / no information on where to put the trash... simple information that could be written on a welcome book or said with a nice check in in the house. Still we keep nice memories of our nice stay at the cottage."

"This is the second time in six months that we have stayed at the Lodge and we are already planning out next visit. Though we all love fairly locally it is ideal for a long weekend with friends. The kitchen is well equipped although perhaps it should state that it is an Aga, as if you aren't familiar with one it can take some getting used to. The rooms are clean and comfortable, there is plenty of space both inside and out to "escape" the rest of your party if you feel the need. I sat outside in the garden in the sunshine at 8am watching the pheasants, squirrels and a fox. The airport noise can be rather intrusive (again if you aren't used to it, but some of us are!) We would certainly recommending to friends.... in fact we already have."

"The lodge is lovely and in a good area but we arrived to a decomposing pheasant on the doorstep which took over 24 hours to get sorted. There were also mice, that we saw, in the kitchen. The wifi isn’t adequate for the size of the house and the now box only allows you to watch catch up tv. It could also benefit from some books, games or dvds which all other holiday rentals have had in my experience. I also think the chimney needs sweeping as it wasn’t possible to get a fire going that didnt seem smoky. That said my kids loved the rabbit warren nature of the house and all the routes round it and especially loved the secret high bed. Also the steps at back of house are very slippery and have no hand rail- my husband fell and hurt himself on them on a wet day."

"Enjoyed our stay very much, very quirky property! Loved all the log fires, the space and the quiet. It was perfect for our family reunion, in terms of location and facilities offered. Very popular with the younger members of the family who are agitating to come back! Fantastic for larger groups to get together and have fun together, an excellent house for games of hide and seek! Highly recommended."
