    About this property

Enjoy a stroll in the 2-acre gardens of this spacious, characterful Georgian property which is well placed for the Lakes, Dales and Bowland Forest.
Hazel Grove House is a wonderful Georgian residence, originally a farmhouse, which has benefited from extensive upgrading. Notable changes were made by a gentleman doctor owner in the 1840s, and full renovation by the current owner, who lives in an adjoining cottage, means that the property offers an excellent level of comfort and facilities. Spacious and well-presented living spaces provide families and groups the flexibility to spread out a little and utilise the space to their own requirements. The kitchen flows beautifully into the dining area, sure to be a hub for socialising and enjoying time shared around the table. The more formal drawing room is complemented by the cosy snug, complete with a wood-burning stove for cosy evenings in, and the additional relaxation area on the top floor allows guests a separate TV or quiet area. The generous bedrooms are beautifully presented and benefit from bathroom facilities for each room. Guests will no doubt appreciate the convenience of such an arrangement when holidaying in larger numbers.
Whilst first impressions portray a grand country residence with a formal frontage, the charm of the original farmhouse remains, giving a homely and comfortable feel to this spacious property. Sitting in 2 acres and tucked away in countryside on the edge of the Lakes, this fabulous holiday property has a lot to offer families and groups of friends looking for a high standard of accommodation in a most convenient location.
The delightful formal gardens, with year-round interest, are a joy to wander around, being well stocked with a variety of colourful and scented plants. Nature lovers will delight in the regular visits to the gardens of the roe deer and fallow deer which inhabit the surrounding fields, as well as hedgehogs, frogs, toads, a green woodpecker, curlews, herons, pheasants and owls. A short drive away in the Silverdale and Arnside aonb, birdwatchers will delight in Leighton Moss, home to the BBC’s Spring Watch.
Hazel Grove House offers an ideal location from which to explore a choice of popular destinations within a 30-minute drive, including The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland. The popular market towns of Kendal and Kirkby Lonsdale are both well worth a visit, offering a selection of cafés, bars and restaurants for all tastes and occasions, along with a good mix of independent traders and popular stores. For those drawn to the coast, the Kent Estuary and Morecambe Bay are within easy reach, and walkers and cyclists will enjoy the routes available for all abilities. Inland, Farleton Knott is a popular local attraction and visible from the gardens, and from here and neighbouring Hutton Roof Crags, the Lake District Fells across Morecambe Bay can be seen, as well as the Howgill Fells and Middleton Fells in the Yorkshire Dales, together with the moors of Bowland Forest. Farleton Knott has some of the best-preserved limestone pavements in Britain and is a designated sssi. Beach 4 miles. Shop 500 yards, pub 1 mile, restaurant 2 miles.

"We had a wonderful time at Hazel Grove. The house is simply stunning, a real sense of grandeur with a beautiful furniture and incredibly comfortable beds. The house was spotlessly clean and had all the facilities to provide a truly special holiday.Davinia was a very helpful and responsive host.I would highly recommend Hazel Grove House to my nearest and dearest."

"We are a group of 12 ladies who take a break from the rat race every year and take ourselves off for a long weekend in November. We make it a Christmas themed weekend, enjoying everything from secret Santa to a full Christmas dinner. Hazel Grove House was just perfect in every way. Davinia was a superb host, going to the trouble of dressing the house for Christmas earlier than she would normally and the delicious cake and wine left as part of the welcome pack was much appreciated. The house was spotlessly clean, and equipped to a very high standard. I really can't find anything negative to say about our stay. Thank you so much Davinia."

"Really enjoyed our stay , very clean, plenty of room for 12 people, plenty of equipment for 12, would not hesitate in staying again or with recommending it."

"All of us from the youngest to the oldest really enjoyed our holiday, especially the lovely garden. We would definitely go back again. Great position for visits to many beautiful locations."

"The house is quite isolated, so there aren't any local amenities. Taxis are cheap. But the house is lovely and the owner very friendly and helpful."

"A lovely house perfect for the large family party we had and very comfortable apart from the settees in the snug. The grounds are lovely but you do not get exclusive use of them. Overall we enjoyed our holiday."

"All 10 of us has an amazing time. It’s a beautiful house in a great location. The house was spotless & extremely well equipped. The dining kitchen is a great place to prepare & enjoy meals with plenty of space & a huge dining table and the 2 lounges are great too. Davina does a great job keeping the grounds too & is always on hand if you need her. Would definitely recommend this place for both families & groups of friends"

"The house is well located and spotlessly clean. The owner was helpful and very attentive both before our arrival and throughout the stay. The linens were good quality which added a bit of luxury to the property. However I would need to question the overall tag of "luxury " which is attributed to the house. The kitchen/dining area was good although a larger freezer for 12 people would have been more welcome particularly as there is definitely space for one.Our biggest problem was with the lounges. The front lounge was comfortable, but the fact that the wood burner did not work in here was very disappointing. It is a bright room which we could have made more use of if it could have been made more cosy. The TV lounge sofas were uncomfortable and one was so difficult to relax on - very firm and we kept sliding down . Added to this there was a huge tear in one of the arms which was covered by a throw. Many of the cushions were spilling out of the covers, which certainly did not live up to the boast of "luxury" accommodation. This room had more of a residential home feel about it, with the random mix of chairs and sofas. The double bedroom on the second floor had rusty stains on the wall which was unsightly. Overall the house seemed tired with all the dark old furniture. I understand that it is a period property but to claim that it is one of the best places we have stayed would be untrue. Sadly we would not return as there are better properties available in the same price range."

"A perfect house for a large group as all the bedrooms had their own bathrooms. Couldn't fault it and the owner was always on hand to help with any queries or advice."
    Craig ‐ 25 Feb 2018
"Great holiday, house has everything in you might need. Great location for getting out and about. You will need to drive to the local as the route back is pretty dark depending on the time but they are all nice pubs."

"We enjoyed a wonderful family get-together at Hazel Grove House. My grandchildren loved hunting for the fairies in the garden - thank you Divinia for making that such fun, also thank you for our welcome goodies. We all loved the space, particularly the amazing kitchen and the huge dining table. Having all en-suite bedrooms gives such excellent facilities and we highly recommend this holiday property."

"We were a party of 3 families with a total of 11 aged from 13yrs to pensioners, we were there to celebrate my daughters significant birthday (the one where life is said to begin) as a surprise gift for her and she was delighted with the house and deemed it 'perfect'. Hazel Grove is a beautiful old Georgian house with all the comforts of home - the house is large enough for everyone to have their own space, the beds were all very comfortable -and all bedrooms are ensuite so no queues for bathrooms or loos. The teenage boys loved the attic space to connect their games to the TV; the quiet lounge was great for all to get together and chat with a glass of wine, the main TV was only watched by the men for the footy! The kitchen is well equipped and we loved the Aga range - perfect for a slow cooked roast. The welcome buns were a nice touch too. The only minor issue for us was a failure in the heating on our last night but it was put right as quickly as possible. All in all we loved it and would return."
