"Lovely cottage in quiet location. Hosts friendly and all equipment we needed. Thank you for a great stay :)"

"What a fantastic cottage! We had the best time staying in Orchard Cottage and didn't want to leave. The village was quiet and such a friendly community - we were there for Halloween and our daughter enjoyed handing out sweets to the locals who came around (we put a carved pumpkin outside so they knew they could come knocking) and then went to a few houses who were very welcoming and friendly. The local walking is great and its not far from Lacy's caves, which we were very excited to find were accessible again after previously being closed due to flooding. Local shop (driving distance) in the next village of Langwathby was great, and Penrith nearby has Morrisons, Aldi, Sainsbury's etc. so plenty of options available! There is also a lovely looking cafe a short walk from the house, but unfortunately we were so busy out walking the lakes every day that we didn't get a chance to go and check it out. As with all areas of the lake district, it involves driving...but that is expected anywhere you stay. But as far as the cottage is concerned, it is an exceptionally well equipped cottage which absolutely everything you could need. The hosts are great and were around if we had any questions as they live nearby. The icing on the cake was being able to stay in such a lovely property, relaxing by the fire at the end of the day with the dogs snoring away at our feet. Our week staying at Orchard Cottage was fantastic and we cannot wait to go again!"

"Lovely comfortable cottage. Wood burner a bonus as it was a cold, wet weekend. Would'nthesitate to book again."

"A gorgeous, spacious but cosy, well-equipped cottage with a lovely secure garden for our dogs. One of our dogs is deaf so it's important to us to have somewhere safe for her to get some off-lead time when we go away. The owners were friendly and helpful and have clearly tried hard to make the cottage a real home from home. The wifi was great and having Netflix on the TV was an unexpected and very welcome bonus! We can also strongly recommend Bank House Equestrian Centre, just behind the cottage, to anyone who fancies a bit of horse riding during their holiday. We had a lovely week and would happily come back again."

"We really liked Orchard Cottage and can highly recommend it. It's very comfortable and well equipped. There is ample parking alongside, on a quiet road, and the enclosed garden was ideal for our dog."

"Absolutely fabulous, would recommend to everybody. The best cottage for quality and cleanliness we have ever stayed in. Perfect enclosed garden for our 2 dogs."

"I always send reviews and read all when looking to hire a holiday cottage. I noted there were many excellent reviews but only one bad review. As there were many excellent reviews I decided to book the cottage based on majority. The result was, that this is probably the best cottage I have ever stayed in and there have been many over the years. Everything was clean and in excellent order the fixtures and fittings were of superior quality. The lovely owners Daniel and Winter were on hand when needed but were never intrusive. I am completely puzzled by the one bad review and can confirm that the comments made, were completely unjustified. However I accept that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. In conclusion, my wife and I and our dog Casey had a really good holiday and the weather was also kind. I would therefore recommend this cottage to anyone, and will be back for another holiday in the future."

"One of the nicest cottages we’ve rented and we have rented many over the years. The overriding word here is quality. From the top end kitchen and utensils to the super comfortable beds and tasteful fittings throughout. Spotlessly clean on arrival means you can just settle right in and don’t have to properly wash dishes etc. which we often have had to do in previous rentals. The enclosed garden was perfect for our dog, the boot room at the back of the house is perfect for bikes or walking gear and Daniel and Winter were the perfect laid back friendly hosts. Little Salkeld is a great little quite farming village with friendly locals and is only a short drive to the nearest Nisa a couple of miles away. Penrith is about 15 mins away for anything else you might need. Plenty of excellent pub/restaurants within a very short drive. Cottage ideally placed for access to Lake District and North York’s dales."

"We enjoyed a really lovely week at Orchard Cottage. The accommodation is exactly what we wanted."

"From the moment we walked into Orchard Cottage we were in love with this fantastic holiday home. The cottage was spotless and very well equipped. The extra tea bags, coffee and cleaning equipment was very welcome. The owners, Winter and Daniel were very friendly and helpful but not intrusive. The beds were very comfy and the sitting room was cosy. It must be a real treat in the winter to have a nice log fire on the go. The local farmer always had a friendly wave and stopped to let our grandson have a look around his tractor. The play park opposite was lovely with all the equipment well maintained. This cottage is in a wonderful location for a peaceful holiday but within easy reach of the busy parts of the Lakes."

"I think there is little point doing reviews unless they are honest. The upstairs and kitchen of Orchard cottage are fine, but the lounge and ‘sun room’ are drab and depressing. The garden is perfect for dogs, but the parking leaves a lot to be desired, as the farmer who keeps his equipment next door is in and out with heavy equipment from early morning. There is not a shop in the village ( not unusual ) but there not being a welcome pack of basics was. We visit several cottages each year and have never been to one that didn’t provide at least bread, milk and usually a bottle of wine. So go prepared. That said the shop in the next village is wonderful and living in a Peak District Village ourselves I thought it was a wonderful facility. There is building work taking place locally even Saturday and Sunday but the company we rented from just said it didn’t bother the owners! Unfortunately , it bothered us as we are used to peace and quiet. We visited most of the Lakes which was the purpose of the visit. The cottage is described as detached but it seems to be attached to the farm buildings behind."

"The finish and fittings of the cottage were of superior quality and made for a very relaxing break. As the owner of two small dogs, the enclosed garden provided a secure environment for them to enjoy too. Overall, a lovely cottage which we hope to visit again."

"Super cottage in lovely location. Secure garden for our little dog. Lovely walks locally. Pub needs car but excellent food and welcome there too. All amenities 20 mins away by car in Penrith. Enjoyed our stay very much and would highly recommend for a relaxing break."
