"Fabulous cottage, clean and cosy, quiet relaxing area with lots to do nearby, comfy super-king size bed which had the wow factor and was brilliant for a good nights sleep.Wonderful perfect hosts Daniel & Winter, who didn’t bother us but also couldn’t do enough for us! There was everything you need available to use in a large laundry room including an abundance of cleaners, cloths, tea towels, toilet roll, kitchen roll, washing tablets, dish washer tablets etc. Tea bags, coffee sachets, salt, pepper etc in kitchen cupboards etc.Wonderful to have new Molten Brown shower gel by the shower and another hand wash by the bathroom basin. Excellent and we will be back,The garden was at the front of the house so not secluded and the wall was a little low so we had to watch that our big dog didn’t jump it to chase the local pair of wandering foraging chickens, but it was lovely and a very peaceful area anyway, so everything was fabulous, Thank you for our wonderful break!"

"Lovely cottage in very peaceful location, great for accessing Eden Valley, but a bit far out for daily access to The Lake District. Very well equipped kitchen, and bedrooms were to a good standard to other than pillows being of a very poor quality. The living room was not in keeping with rest of the cottage, it was adequate but poor lighting. (not able to read etc unless had main light on), which is something we do a lot and the couch and chair low and uncomfortable. Also cold until stove lit, but free firewood etc is kindly provided throughout your stay. Given the standard of the rest of the cottage it felt like perhaps the owners had not got around to refurbishing this room yet.The only real negative was never sufficient hot water, for a bath, or even washing up, and the boost button had no affect. Worse than that, the shower was unusable, with no pressure, just a trickle and it could not hold any temperature, so went from scalding to freezing, very unsatisfactory.Storage heaters much too hot at night and no heat through the day."

"Lovely homely cottage, very comfy beds, very well stocked with everything for a home from home holiday. Great outside space which will be amazing in the summer months. Having a log store just outside was a bonus especially as the nights are drawing in. We just found the location for us was a little bit out of the way - we usually like to stay in or close to villages that have a few amenities (such as a shop and pub) that we can access without taking the car out."

"Amazing location, a bit rural but ideal to enjoy peace and quiet with option to travel throughout cumbria. Run by a lovely couple who live near and are so helpful should you need them. They have thought of everything possible and the layout of the cottage is perfect.Yes it gets a bit chilly in autumn evenings but the log burner is superb and adds to the real cottage experience"

"Not good on parts unfortunately. The twin beds were very uncomfortable with cheap mattresses. I had to ask for additional bedding to put over the mattress so that I could sleep.Ythere was a broken plug in the bathroom sink ,so I had to go and buy one myself. The owner knew it didn't work. The carpet in the sitting room had dog hair on it. The sofa under the cushions was crummy and uncleanWorst of all probably was the fact that the owner knew that there was no electricity one day,but failed to tell us.We had a seven month baby with us who needed boiled water and my husband was working from the cottage and needed Internet. The owner knew this as he had talked to my husband the night before.somehow it slipped his mind that we would have no power until 4:45pm the following day."

"Orchard Cottage is the perfect base for visiting Cumbria, we had anticipated spending most of our time at the Lakes but once we experienced how beautiful Little Salkeld and the surrounding villages are we spent more days exploring this area. So many beautiful walks from the door, a handy play area opposite the cottage for the dogs to sniff. We just loved everything about our stay.."

"A beautiful cottage in a stunning location. Very high standard of fixtures and fittings, the beds were just so comfortable and top quality. Everything you could need was provided, even logs for the log burner (not normally supplied) No need to go very far as lovely walks straight from the door. Really is the nicest cottage I’ve ever stayed in. Not much in local amenities but Penrith only 5 miles away, but that suited us fine, so peaceful waking up to bird song every morning, and it was just want we wanted peace and quiet. All the locals we met were very friendly and helpful.Thank you Daniel and Winter"

"Lovely cottage situated in quiet village but within easy driving distance of Ullswater, Keswick, Windermere if you want to go further afield. Owners very helpful and loved room with full map of area on wall along with lots of brochures, made it very easy to plan our days."

"We booked Orchard Cottage for Christmas 2018 or the two of us and our 3 dogs, we arrived early and the keys were ready for us which was a bonus. The layout of the cottage is great, the kitchen / dining room is huge and very well equipped, the quality of the appliances was first class, as were the pans / crockery - such a refreshing change. Cooking Christmas dinner was an absolute breeze. There was a lovely supply of tea and coffee on hand for when we arrived which was great, all we need to do was locate the milk we'd taken which was easy enough, so a lovely cuppa whilst we unpacked the car.The sitting room was cosy with a wood burning fire, it was an education for us as we've never used one before but soon got the hang of it, we didn't use the map room as it was a little chilly but this would be a wonderful room to sit and read in the summer months. The boot room was also an added bonus, lots of space, a washer / dryer, vacuum cleaners and spare household items (loo / kitchen rolls, fire lighters etc) too.The outstanding quality of the accommodation continued upstairs, the master bedroom with a super king size bed AND superior bedding (as was the 2nd bedroom - twin beds) and large thick towels, the bathroom again was of exceptional quality and I was impressed (and a little spoiled) with Molton Brown shower/bath gel and hand wash in the bathroom. Our dogs loved the garden and the outside patio area, other than playtime with the dogs, we didn't spend too much time out there but can imagine it lovely in the summer, we did quite a few walks from the door and also visited Lowther, Appleby and Pooley Bridge too.The village is very quiet with no facilities at all and that suited us, there is a super village store about a mile and a half away (and a pub but it's not dog friendly) and a well equipped Sainsburys 20 minutes up the road in Penrith. The owners are attentive and it's obvious the thought and care they've put in to the cottage and we'll certainly be back. All in all, a wonderful Christmas Break in a lovely setting in the highest quality accommodation."

"Loved the cottage and settled in straight away.So cosy. Walks on hand that were easy. Pubs nearby if you want to eat out. Loved my stay. ??"
    Ashley ‐ 10 Nov 2018
"Lovely cottage in quiet location. Hosts friendly and all equipment we needed. Thank you for a great stay :)"
    Chris ‐ 8 Nov 2018
"What a fantastic cottage! We had the best time staying in Orchard Cottage and didn't want to leave. The village was quiet and such a friendly community - we were there for Halloween and our daughter enjoyed handing out sweets to the locals who came around (we put a carved pumpkin outside so they knew they could come knocking) and then went to a few houses who were very welcoming and friendly. The local walking is great and its not far from Lacy's caves, which we were very excited to find were accessible again after previously being closed due to flooding. Local shop (driving distance) in the next village of Langwathby was great, and Penrith nearby has Morrisons, Aldi, Sainsbury's etc. so plenty of options available! There is also a lovely looking cafe a short walk from the house, but unfortunately we were so busy out walking the lakes every day that we didn't get a chance to go and check it out. As with all areas of the lake district, it involves driving...but that is expected anywhere you stay. But as far as the cottage is concerned, it is an exceptionally well equipped cottage which absolutely everything you could need. The hosts are great and were around if we had any questions as they live nearby. The icing on the cake was being able to stay in such a lovely property, relaxing by the fire at the end of the day with the dogs snoring away at our feet. Our week staying at Orchard Cottage was fantastic and we cannot wait to go again!"
