About this property

Positioned in the village of Garrigill, surrounded by the stunning Alston Moor, with open views across the fells, is Gatecroft. This 17th century cottage offers bundles of character, presented to a lovely standard of quality throughout, ideal for a couple or a family of six. The original stone floors and exposed beams lend a nod to the period of the property. Gather around the woodburner in the lounge and soak up the country cottage feel that wraps itself around the interior. The kitchen boasts a large farmhouse table with a traditional-style range set in an inglenook as well as a standard electric oven and hob. Share a home cooked meal with a bottle of wine and good company. There is a bunk room downstairs, followed by a shower room, with another bunk room on the first floor and a master double bedroom with an en-suite cloakroom. To the exterior, is a fully enclosed walled cottage garden to front of property, and fully enclosed walled patio to rear of property suitable for bike storage if required and BBQ. The village of Garrigill has a pub and Post Office, while the lovely town of Alston is a stone's throw away, with cobbled streets hosting an array of shops, pubs and eateries. Interestingly, this little town was the location for ITV's Jane Eyre and Oliver Twist. Set in the North Pennines AONB, you are surrounded by velvet moorland, rolling hills and glistening rivers - a haven for those who love walking. Embark on a journey through the breath-taking scenery of South Tyne Valley on the South Tynedale Railway or for those who enjoy fishing, gain a day-ticket for the River Tyne, which notably stocks some of the finest salmon in England. You also have access to all the wonders of the Lake District, Northumberland and the Yorkshire Dales. A warm and welcoming cottage in a beautiful region of Cumbria.

Standing on the River South Tyne, near Cross Fell is this small village. The centre of the village is the green, with the George and Dragon pub, a post office and village store, St John’s church and the village hall are nearby. At Ashgillside and Beldy there are waterfalls namely Ashgill Force and Thortergill Force. The Pennine Way passes through the village on its way from Dufton via Cross Fell, Great Dun Fell and on to Alston.
