Snaptrip says

The Hayloft in Alston offers a cosy and comfortable stay with stunning views and a relaxing hot tub. Guests appreciate the warm welcome from the owners and the property's cleanliness. While some minor maintenance issues are noted, the charm of the cottage and its amenities, including an open fire, contribute to a delightful rural retreat. The location is praised for its tranquillity and proximity to local attractions, though accessibility on foot may be challenging for some.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The property generally receives high marks for cleanliness, with guests finding it cosy and well-kept. Some minor issues with floor cleaning and a suggestion for plastic glasses to avoid accidents in the hot tub were noted, but overall, the property is maintained to a good standard.

The location is celebrated for its beauty and tranquillity, offering lovely walks and proximity to local sites. However, some guests noted the challenges of walking to the nearby town due to fast vehicles and lack of pavements, which slightly impacts the score.

Guests find the beds comfortable and the living space welcoming. The warmth of the cottage and the hot tub add to the comfort level. Some concerns about heating control and the steep stairs were mentioned, but overall, the comfort of the property is well-regarded.

The facilities, including the hot tub and open fire, are highlights for guests. However, there are comments about dated bathrooms and the need for upgrades, as well as some maintenance issues like the front door lock and shower functionality, which suggest room for improvement.

The owners are commended for their thoughtfulness, with mentions of a warm welcome and gifts such as wine and biscuits. While these gestures are highly appreciated, it is noted that such extras are a bonus and not guaranteed with every stay.

About this property

Alston 1 mile. A sympathetically restored, terraced barn conversion, set behind the owners’ home and Bed and Breakfast in a rural location, one mile from Alston in Cumbria. This comfortable cottage is ideal for a couple or friends seeking a break in the superb Cumbrian countryside. The Hayloft is mainly situated on the first floor and has a cleverly designed open plan living area, allowing guests to discuss their day in front of the warming open fire, whilst the evening meal is being prepared nearby. Two double bedrooms, one with a handy zip/link bed for flexible sleeping, and a ground floor family bathroom, complete the accommodation. A small shared patio to the side of the cottage presents stunning views over the surrounding countryside and is the perfect place to chill out at the end of a busy day. This area is perfect for walkers and cyclists, or for those who prefer stargazing, as on clear nights, the evening sky’s display of stars is not to be missed. Nearby Alston is a traditional country town with a selection of welcoming pubs serving real ale and good food. The Pennine Way also passes through the town, which is also on the C2C Cycle Route. With lots to see and do within an hour’s drive, including Hadrian's Wall, Beamish open air living museum, Durham Cathedral and the Lake District, this is a great spot for a welcoming break.

Alston is set in the North Pennines in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, surrounded by a unique landscape of moorland, hills, rivers and waterfalls, and is England's highest market town. With the drive along the A686 recognised by the AA as one of the world's best drives, and northern Cumbria, County Durham and Northumberland, all within easy reach, this makes a superb base.

Clean throughout & a lovely warm welcome from the owners. Who also gave us info on the village events for Halloween & Bonfire night. Hot hot tub - which we loved with stunning views through the day & star gazing when it got dark! Would definitely visit again!

Had everything you needed but the bed could do with fixing properly as the bit of wood nailed on in middle kept on coming off

The cottage was perfect in every way, the location was idyllic with plenty of opportunity for walking and our hosts were so friendly and welcoming. This is definitely somewhere I would recommend and hopefully return to.
