The cottage is nicely furnished and cosy. We used the kingsize bed and it's very comfy. I'd been a bit worried beforehand about the railway line running behind the cottage but all you can hear is a low background noise for a few seconds occasionally so it's not a problem at all. The beach is very stony so might be difficult to negotiate for some people but for those that like rockpooling it would be the perfect beach :-)

The Shillies is just lovely. Clean, comfortable, well-equipped and in good repair. The strip of land with the little houses is just that, rockpools right in front of the bungalow and a sandy patch perfect for swimming a five minute walk. It did feel like the edge of the world as we arrived in the middle of the night in the rain on the back of a tow truck, and were very grateful for a warm home with comfortable beds waiting for us. The track down is narrow and bumpy, however supermarkets and others deliver, and St Bees is about an hour's walk on the coastal path. The owner was very helpful and put us in touch with someone locally to help us with out transport woes. Local folk were friendly and keen to share the history of the beach. The Isle of Man did appear and then disappear, at will it seemed. The Lakes are not far and we enjoyed kayaking and walking, and we saw a red squirrel. The weather was glorious all week, the sea like a mill pond on Sundays, and the sunsets performed for us every evening. We didn't use the telly. Comfy beds and super showers worth an extra mention. Not everything in the welcome pack was available but we had what we needed and more. Super stocked shed was a boon! Very happy to recommend the Shillies.
