About this property

A delightful 17th century character cottage which is located in the striking coastal village of St Bees on the western coast of Cumbria. Spacious and well-presented this cottage is also full of lovely character features such as, beams, stone mullion windows and latch doors as well as a striking brick fireplace with woodburning stove in the spacious kitchen. This cottage is perfect for friends and families wishing to spend time together and enjoy one of the most appealing areas on the west coast. You can visit the stunning local beach which is perfect for blowing away the cobwebs and enjoying the sea air at all times of the year as well as exploring the picturesque West Lakes which has some of the most beautiful vistas of the Lake District. Downstairs there is a well-equipped spacious kitchen with table and chairs with a large brick fireplace and cosy woodburning stove, as well as a separate dining room and sitting room with an electric feature fire. Upstairs are four bedrooms, some with period fireplaces, and also a bathroom with freestanding bath. The sitting room is spacious with sumptuous leather settees and has a corner for reading. Some of the bedrooms have latch doors and at the back have beams and stone mullion windows with some of the beams dating back to the 17th century. Outside the front of the property there is a small private patio where you can sit outside and relax with a coffee. St Bees is a pretty village with quaint streets with cottages built in local red sandstone. There is a convenient train station where you can enjoy short journeys or travel down the coast or inland to Carlise and Barrow in Furness. The village has a beautiful sandy beach perfect for walking and taking in the fresh sea air and admiring the coastal wildlife. There is also a circular walk from St Bees Head and Birkhams Quarry which is said to be one of the best coastal walks on the North West Coastal Path. As well as the abundance of coastal pursuits on offer, there are also the accessible and equally stunning Western Lakes to discover. Wastwater, one of the deepest and quieter lakes in the National Park, said to be one of the most beautiful views in England, is just over a 30 minute drive from the property. Alternatively why not drive to Ennerdale Water and enjoy a scenic walk around this peaceful lake? Hop on the single gauge stream train at Eskdale or perhaps walk part of the famous Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk which starts from St Bees. The village is also steeped in history with St Bees School dating back to Elizabethan times. This fascinating area has plenty to explore both on the coast or inland, making this cottage an ideal holiday location at any time of the year.

St. Bees is a seaside village on the west coast of Cumbria with a shop, post office and old traditional pubs. It's an ideal base for exploring the western Lake District and Cumbrian coast, and is the start of the famous Wainwright coast to coast walk. There is a fine beach and many wonderful walks are available along the clifftops, which are also home to one of England’s most important seabird colonies.
