The Hayloft is a well-regarded cottage, praised for its cleanliness, comfortable furnishings, and friendly owners. Its location is ideal for exploring the surrounding areas, with guests enjoying the rural setting and proximity to attractions. While some minor maintenance issues are noted, the overall experience is positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Guests consistently mention that the cottage is very clean, with several reviews highlighting the cleanliness as a positive aspect. The property appears to be well-maintained in this regard.

The location is frequently praised for being perfect for exploring the local area, with easy access to Hadrian's Wall, the Lake District, and North Pennines. The rural setting on a working farm adds to the charm.

Many guests find the cottage cosy and comfortable, with comfy beds and a homely feel. However, a few guests mention draughts and a small size for larger parties or pets, which slightly affects the comfort score.

Facilities are generally well-received, with the property being well-appointed. Some guests mention issues with WIFI, draughts, and non-working heated towel rails. The hot tub is a plus, though its accessibility and condition are occasionally criticised.

While the reviews reflect that the owners are welcoming and provide a good quality of service, there is no specific mention of gifts or special thoughtful touches that would warrant a score in this category.

About this property

This charming, stone-built, semi-detached barn conversion is one of seven on the owner’s working farm, in the rural hamlet of Milton, just two miles from the bustling market town of Brampton. The Hayloft is bright and cheerful with a thoughtfully-designed interior, ideal for a small family or a group of friends in need of a break away to a rural retreat, excellently situated for exploring the Scottish Borders, Northern Lakes and the Pennines. Inside this lovely property, both bedrooms boast en-suite shower facilities, with one being a luxurious king-size double, perfect for the adults, and the other a twin, ideal for the children. Downstairs you’ll find a cosy sitting room, complete with a three piece suite, an electric fire and French doors opening onto a patio area, a great spot to sit and enjoy a good book and a glass of something cool. The modern fitted kitchen with dining area comes equipped with all you need to prepare a celebratory family dinner, whilst a cloakroom completes the downstairs of the splendid cottage. With plenty to see and do from the doorstep, why not experience some local history and discover the Roman ruins at Birdoswald, Vindolanda and Housesteads? Alternatively, visit Thirlwall Castle and beautiful Talkin Tarn, for watersports and wonderful walks. A little further afield are the stunning Northern Lakes, Eden Valley and the rugged Scottish Borders, all just waiting to be explored. No matter what time of year you decide to holiday, The Hayloft is perfectly positioned for those wishing to explore the Cumbrian countryside and beyond. Note: This cottage is next to Refs. 3738, 3739, 4585, 917515, 922499 and 931769, 949797, together they sleep 30.

Ideally placed for exploring northern Cumbria, the hamlet of Milton is close to all of the region's most popular attractions including Hadrians Wall, the Solway Firth coast and the Lake District National Park. The nearby market town of Brampton dates back to the Roman occupation, and shows evidence of attacks from Scottish border raiders and Jacobite uprisings. Apparently, the Scottish Bonnie Prince Charlie established his headquarters in one of the old buildings in Brampton, now a shop. Just a few miles away is Talkin Tarn Country Park, covering 180 acres - 65 of which make up the Tarn, a 10,000 year old glacial lake, fed by underwater springs. Slightly further south is Gelt Woods, an ancient forest along the banks of the River Gelt.

It was so quiet and cosy. We can’t wait to come back in the summer. Highlight was getting to see the farm animals up close, and sitting in front of the cosy fire in the evenings watching tv. For a small place there was plenty of storage for belongings, and it was conveniently equipped with dishwasher/ washing machine/firestick. Thank you so much to mabel and family x

The owners were very friendly and informative. Very good location to visit other places such as Talkin Tarn, Hexham, Alston and Whitley Bay. The only discrepancy we had is that we thought that the cottage had an enclosed garden as we had 2 dogs staying with us and it would have been ideal to have an enclosed garden for them.

Furnishings are of a good quality, beds comfortable. Although the kitchen had plenty of pans, it was short of glasses - only had a few tumblers (plenty of wine glasses!!). Cups were also in short supply. Towels were too small and should have been tumble dried to make them soft. All in all, a lovely cottage and we had a great time.
