The Byre is a well-received cottage, praised for its cleanliness, cosy atmosphere, and secure garden, making it ideal for families and pet owners. Its proximity to attractions and the countryside is appreciated, as is the well-equipped kitchen. Some guests noted the comfort of the beds and the convenience of a fireplace, while others suggested updates to furniture and fixtures. The enclosed garden and the hot tub are popular features.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Guests consistently describe the cottage as clean and tidy, with several reviews highlighting its spotlessness. The attention to cleanliness is evident across multiple comments.

The location is frequently praised for its quietness and proximity to local attractions, including Hadrian's Wall and the Lake District. The nearby village of Brampton is noted for its amenities. However, one review mentioned a busy road, slightly impacting the score.

Many guests found the cottage comfortable, mentioning the large bed and the cosy fireplace. However, some reviews suggested that the sofa and chairs were tired and the mattresses needed replacing, which affects the score.

Facilities such as the well-equipped kitchen, secure garden, and hot tub are well-regarded. Some guests experienced issues with the WiFi and appliances, and one mentioned safety concerns with the balcony, indicating room for improvement.

While the reviews reflect positively on the host's helpfulness and the cottage's amenities, there are no specific mentions of gifts or extra thoughtful touches that would warrant a score in this category.

About this property

A delightful, stone-built, semi-detached cottage on a working livestock farm in the rural hamlet of Milton, two miles from Brampton. Created from the careful, thoughtful conversion of an old dairy, this Milton cottage is tastefully decorated, with exposed crook beams, stonework, a woodburner and modern kitchen. A charming Milton cottage with accommodation all on one level, the property is further enhanced by a spacious main bedroom with exposed beams, and outside, a delightful decked area with countryside views. For those looking to tackle magnificent Hadrian's Wall, or explore the North Pennines, this is the ideal Milton cottage. Note: This cottage is next to Refs. 3739, 4585, 917515, 922499, 931769 and 941220, 949797, together they sleep 30.

Ideally placed for exploring northern Cumbria, the hamlet of Milton is close to all of the region's most popular attractions including Hadrians Wall, the Solway Firth coast and the Lake District National Park. The nearby market town of Brampton dates back to the Roman occupation, and shows evidence of attacks from Scottish border raiders and Jacobite uprisings. Apparently, the Scottish Bonnie Prince Charlie established his headquarters in one of the old buildings in Brampton, now a shop. Just a few miles away is Talkin Tarn Country Park, covering 180 acres - 65 of which make up the Tarn, a 10,000 year old glacial lake, fed by underwater springs. Slightly further south is Gelt Woods, an ancient forest along the banks of the River Gelt.

Firstly, the location of the cottage is brilliant, we were able to explore Northumberland, the North Lake District, Hadrian's Wall and surrounding areas just as we had expected. Unfortunately, there were some niggles with the property; there were only storage heaters which it was really difficult to control the temperature with, we tried turning them off at the wall but they were still pumping out heat hours later, and then because of the size of the ceilings, didn't always warm the rooms very well. The taps in both the kitchen and the bathroom were broken, although useable. Although the main thoroughfares were clean, there were finer detailed areas that would have benefitted from some closer attention such as the soap dish in the shower and under the bed. It would also have been nice to have an information pack on arrival containing things such as local places to eat, the WiFi code (although this information is on the router), local shops, local first aid information, places to visit etc. Having said that, we were greeted personally by the owner of the property (I think by chance) who kindly passed on some of this information. Despite all of this, it was lovely to have an enclosed garden for our poochie, and we really enjoyed the open fire in the property. The biggest plus was the cost of the property; we would usually expect to pay for a week, the price that we paid for 9 nights, so this was a big bonus. If the little niggles were sorted, this would be the perfect package. Thanks again.

Didn’t use hot tub as water needed changing but apart from that everything was good. Would stay again
