About this property

Welcome to the village of Shipton Moyne - a bit like Dibley from the famous TV show: beautiful, traditional and every inch your quintessential English village. Impossibly ancient houses and cottages, smart, well-tended gardens, a thriving village community and one of the best named pubs in the land too (and it serves fine food too). Your holiday cottage, gorgeously named The Henhouse is a joy of a place to stay. Renovated completely from top to tail where space is a-plenty and extra details have been added for comfort, in fact you are are in for a treat.

You walk straight into a swish kitchen where you are greeted by smart, pale units all under a granite surface, a heated flagstone floor beneath your feet and sweet views to the old henhouse (!!) where there are a small selection of fancy chickens, a few goats and some Shetland ponies, friendly neighbours over the fence of your garden. There's all you need to whip up a storm in the kitchen, and a traditional oak dining table too. Walk through to your living room with ample seating, a wood burning stove in fact all is very cosy thanks to underfloor heating. Upstairs are two good sized bedrooms each with village views and each with ensuite showers, so no need to share here.... Outside is a good sized garden area with table and chairs.

We just loved the property and the location where there is plenty to do, if you want to, or where you can just play in and around the village in true peace! Stunning.

Shipton Moyne, Gloucestershire is a short drive away from Tetbury, which retains a wealth of character within its ancient streets. The town’s origins date back to 681, but it was during the Middle Ages that it flourished as one of the major markets for The Cotswold wool trade. Nowadays The Market Hall is still home to a busy general market every Wednesday, whilst the town as a whole is something of a mecca for antique hunters with several shops in the town and regular fairs in the vicinity. Closeby is the Forestry Commission’s Westonbirt Arboretum, one of the largest collections of rare shrubs and trees in Europe.

The cottage is lovely, well furnished and the view across the field with the goats, chickens and horses was such a pleasure. A well kitted out kitchen and the 2 en-suites made it so convenient for our family. Although it rained much of the week, the cottage was warm, we didn’t need to light the fire, I imagine when you do it’s as lovely in Winter inside as it is in Summer in the garden . The village is quiet, the Cat and the Custard Pot a boon (good food, amiable atmosphere and great cider on tap) and a couple of walks for the dogs. Highly recommend the Tetbury Imperial Chinese takeaway ( to be honest - there isn’t much I don’t recommend in Tetbury, including the very special dog treats sold in the Cotswolds Dogs and Cats charity shop). Links from the village to tourist spots also very good.

We have been to the henhouse a few times and love it more and more. The house and the grounds are beautiful and the owners and lovely and very accommodating. Would highly recommend to anyone!! That includes my own mother !!

The photos of the living room do not match the photos on the site. The whole decor is shabby and old, the sofa really needs to be replaced, it gave us back pain. Broken seats. Furthermore, it was dirty everywhere, a filthy toilet brush, and next to the toilet all kinds of urine traces, mold in the bathrooms, a leak under the sink in the kitchen. This was apparently already known because there was a basin and there were cloths to collect the water. A filthy container of the washing machine, mold there too. Crumbs in the tray of the toaster from previous guests, dirty oven and microwave, lack of a fire blanket, greasy extractor hood, dirty pots and pans, we couldn't even open the drawers of the freezer due to icing, traces of a leak in the ceiling. We took pictures and sent them to the owner. Later in the evening the owner came over, didn't recognize the pictures and was angry. A very unpleasant conversation. We were able to leave the next morning and got our money back. Unfortunately after a lot of emails to and from Sykes cottages we only got half back. The advice was to institute summary proceedings against Ms. A huge letdown for us. We therefore advise against the cottage.
