About this property

This Grade II listed, 18th century, thatched, Cotswold stone cottage enjoys an open fire and enclosed cottage style garden. Rose Cottage is situated in Ebrington, one of the most exquisite villages in the North Cotswolds and home to CAMRA's Pub of the year, The Ebrington Arms.

Rose Cottage is a cosy Grade II listed, 18th century, mid-terrace, thatched, Cotswold stone cottage.

Ideal for stays at any time of year; in cooler months, an open fire laid up and ready to light awaits in the comfortable sitting room, with its exposed stone wall, beams and window seat, a joy to curl up in on chilly nights. When sunny days and warmer evenings arrive, the pretty cottage garden is private and enclosed, on two levels with a seating area, steps lead up to a raised gravel level, where well-established borders bring colour, scent and attract the bees and butterflies. The compact kitchen includes a small dining area and the charming stable door opens out to the rear garden. Upstairs is the bedroom with its comfy double bed along with a bathroom.

This romantic little bolt-hole is enviably positioned in Ebrington, one of the most exquisite villages in the North Cotswolds. Peaceful, with unspoilt charm, and just a few miles from Chipping Campden and the famous gardens at Hidcote and Kiftsgate. The village Inn is just a two minute walk from the cottage, The Ebrington Arms serving excellent food and named camra's North Cotswold pub of the year; booking is advisable in this very popular foodie destination.

Ideally located for visiting the surrounding area: Historic Chipping Campden with an array of pubs, bistros, restaurants and shops is just three miles away; the beautiful village of Broadway, often referred to as the 'Jewel of the Cotswolds', can be reached in just over fifteen minutes and Stratford-upon-Avon, home to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Shakespeare's birthplace is accessible within 25 minutes.

Everything about the cottage was fine. Just a couple of suggestions. Firstly, being asked to park under a large tree where the car would be covered in sap and guano is not a good idea. When arriving at a cottage in our experience there is usually a folder on a table with instructions about the cottage. We didn't find this book until 24 hours later in a broom cupboard behind a Henry hoover! This meant that as we had no information about hot water (and there was none on our arrival) I had to find the emersion water heater in order to get some hot water. Lastly the wifi router was in a broom cupboard behind a close door. Needless to say the signal was not as good as it might have been.

We would have given 5 stars but a few items brought that down. Yes, it's a lovely quiet and secluded location with the excellent Ebrington Arms and Vegetable Matters just short walks away and good walks around. The minor niggles which could easily be rectified were: 1. A supply of kiln-dried logs is essential (as we know from our wood stove at home) especially on an open fire. In the case of Rose Cottage you could hear the moisture fizzing as the logs (slowly) burned, a sure sign of too high water content. Sure, the fire lit but was just sluggish and reluctant to burn and had to be attended to regularly to keep heat coming out, which is not ideal in mid-January. Luckily we took a supply of our own logs which burned well so we were cosy, but others could be in problems. 2. The shower mixer in the bathroom was almost impossible to control effectively - it was either scalding hot or freezing cold. 3. We corrected the Guest Book entry for the Wifi Password (a lower case letter was required) but for anyone unfamiliar with how case sensitive are these codes it could have meant no Internet all weekend. Those drawbacks apart, the cottage was well-equipped and the central heating and hot water were excellent. It was also well-kept and spotless so your housekeeper deserves credit for that. We would book the cottage again and would certainly recommend it to friends and family.
