About this property

This comfortable cottage is situated on the Pendeen Lighthouse site, on a majestic granite headland. It provides a hall, sitting room, kitchen with dining table, bathroom, double bedroom and twin bedroom.

In association with Trinity House, we are pleased to present Solebay Cottage at Pendeen Lighthouse.

Solebay is one of two holiday cottages available at the lighthouse and has a dramatic location on a granite headland on the North Cornwall Coast within a Site of Special Scientific Interest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The South West Coast path passes round the headland, passing through part of Cornwall's oldest mining areas. The lighthouse lies six miles north of Land's End and two miles from St Just. The lighthouse was established in 1900, electrified in 1926 and automated in 1994.

You may be lucky enough to spot seals on the rocks below the lighthouse headland, as well as a variety of seabirds. With banks of seasonal pink thrift and golden gorse, the headland is a perfect location to watch the sun setting over the Atlantic.

Also on this site is Argus Cottage, sleeping three guests.

Additional Information:

Two well-behaved dogs welcome (small additional charge).

There is no WiFi service at Pendeen Lighthouse site.

The lighthouse does not have a fog signal.

Travel cot and highchair available on request.

Please note:

Very limited mobile signal. A telephone with honesty box is provided.

Guests should be aware that the lighthouses and equipment need regular and sometimes emergency maintenance. Therefore visits by maintenance staff may occur at any time during the year. However, staff will do their best to ensure guest privacy at all times.

Guests are reminded they are renting a heritage building, therefore certain features such as steps, stairs and floor levels may not comply with that of a modern building. As such, we would advise guests to acquaint themselves with the premises on arrival and exercise caution accordingly.

Access roads to the lighthouse site are narrow with limited passing places and, dependent on the season and site, there is the possibility of overhanging vegetation due to cutting restrictions during bird breeding seasons or other environmental reasons.

A barbecue is not provided, however guests are welcome to bring their own, subject to adhering to the safety precautions set out in the arrival information.

Sorry, no fireworks, drones or remote controlled flying equipment are permitted.

Whilst the cliff edge is protected by a 4' high wall, due to the location of the lighthouse, please ensure that children are supervised at all times.

Having stayed here over 20 times in the past ten years, it is always a pleasure to return with the same high standards appararent on each visit. The housekeeper Diana keeps the cottage so wonderfully clean. We cannot wait to return again.

Excellent location. Accommodation was very clean and spacious. Furnishings and beds very comfortable, giving all items for modern living. Access is good, and affords amazing views. Highly recommended. Will definitely stay here again.

A unique property in a breathtaking location! With seals bobbing in the ocean below, excellent views over to the old tin mines at Geevor and Botallack, and a beautiful sandy beach with nice surf just a 10 minute walk, this was an amazing place to stay. Beyond that, for those with an interest in maritime history (like me) being up close and personal with an active lighthouse is a very unique experience. On misty nights, it's like having your own slightly eerie - and predictable - laser light show (however, I was very glad that the old foghorn was thoroughly decomissioned, although the dispersion horns are still present on top of the foghorn building, and if you look carefully through the windows, the old machinery is still present). Diana, the housekeeper, was very discreet - never got in our way at all, other than to inform us upon arrival that there was a slight issue with the shower but a fix was coming (this was fixed while we were out one day, with our permission). The property is extremely clean and beautifully presented, with all of the facilities you would expect. You really don't need to bring any domestic supplies, as everything necessary is present.
