While on St Michael’s Mount in 1772, the romantic but rheumatic seaweed expert, John Stackhouse, spotted the site for his wedding present to his betrothed, Susanna Acton. Built of granite, Grade II listed, it has formal shared gardens and lawns, slate terraces, sunken garden with pond (unfenced) and sensational sea views, including of St Michael’s Mount. Rough private drive to it. Farmland all round. Coast Path. The castle is now divided into apartments. We let three.

Marvellous huge living/dining/kitchen (38’ x 17’) with two mullioned windows looking seaward, slate floor (rugs) with hexagonal wooden centre, big stone fireplace with ‘living flame’ electric fire, TV/DVD. Well-equipped kitchen area - lovely kitchen sink sea views (across Mount’s Bay to Mousehole) - with dishwasher, washer-drier, microwave, small freezer, cooker with halogen hob. Two bedrooms – a double, and a twin. Bathroom (suite plus hand-shower).

Two Sister in Laws!
"We were delighted with the property,clean and warm on arrival.It was very well equipped ,down to flasks if walking on the adjacent cliff paths.The grounds were immaculate .Very quiet and slightly isolated down a rough track ,but that is a plus for us.Fantastic views of The Mount.Hope to use the property again.We only booked last minute and James was very helpful on the phone."
