About this property

... one mile seaward of Rosudgeon is Acton Castle, commanding the peninsula between Stackhouse Cove (200 yards walk away, low-tide sand) and Prussia Cove, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. While on St Michael’s Mount in 1772, the romantic but rheumatic seaweed expert, John Stackhouse, spotted the site for his wedding present to his betrothed, Susanna Acton. Built of granite, Grade II listed, it has formal shared gardens and lawns, slate terraces, sunken garden with pond (unfenced) and sensational sea views, including of St Michael’s Mount. Rough private drive to it. Farmland all round. Coast Path. The castle is now divided into apartmentsWe let three.

... Courtyard Apartment is on the ground floor (arrow 3) with its own very private, sheltered courtyard (table/chairs) and lovely right-down-the-coast-and-out-to-sea views. Entrance from the back of the castle into large hall with slate floor and utility cupboard (washing machine, tumble drier, sink); very large open-plan living/dining/kitchen (dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer) with slate floor in a split-level arrangement with 2 steps dividing the comfy sofa area (TV/DVD) from the dining/kitchen area, lovely mullioned windows (window seats), electric stove and French windows to courtyard. Two bedrooms – a double with narrow door to en suite shower-room (suite), and a twin; bathroom (suite, shower over bath plus hand-shower).

"Courtyard Apartment, Acton Castle was perfect ground floor accommodation for myself and elderly Mum. The open plan living/dining/kitchen area was superb and we loved the view over Mounts Bay. The private courtyard was a lovely sun trap (early July) and Mum could also get round to the front of the property and enjoy a seat overlooking the sea. Helpful Holidays lived up to their name and provided detailed information so we could assess if this apartment would be suitable for us. There are some steps to negotiate inside and out and we were able to work out how Mum would cope and how much of the garden she could access. The final stretch of rough lane to the property was a bit rougher than expected but that was a minor issue. This is a very well equipped apartment in a splendid location and if you're a keen walker, having the coast path one (quite steep) field away is just perfect."

"This accommodation far exceeded our expectations from the pictures on the website (which are good). The property and location are absolutely stunning with all the local amenities within a ten minute drive in Penzance. I would recommend this to anyone needing to get away from it all looking for TOTAL peace and tranquility. The views and surrounding areas are truly breathtaking. We will book to stay here again - a gem of a find."

"We would not hesitate to recommend this property. Spotlessly clean, very well equipped and wonderful views. A great location if walking the coastal path."
