About this property

… like Baby Bear’s porridge, this 17th cent., thatched, detached, Grade II listed cottage several fields back from the sea is ‘just right’. It is 200 yards from the 13th cent. pub at Morwenstow which serves excellent local produce, and there is access over fields to the Coast Path from the front gate. The cottage has been transformed without losing any charm. As you would expect, there are some low lintels (lowest 5’5”), thick uneven walls and beams. A simple cottage garden (picnic table, bench) surrounds it - the odd chicken might wander through.

From the garden, porch for coats/boots; living room with TV/DVD, inglenook (electric fire), slate floor (rug) and 6’1” beams. Fitted kitchen (slimline dishwasher, microwave, cooker with induction hob) with oak worktops, window seat, drop-leaf dining table and limestone floor; smart ground-floor bathroom (suite, shower over bath) with washer-drier in cupboard. From hall, stairs up to two bedrooms, both with wood floors (rugs) – a double (5’ bed) where oars have been used as beams, and one with two singles (no clothes-hanging space) and glimpse of the sea. A little gem.

"Booking this cottage was easy. The staff at Helpful Holidays were very efficient, the e-mails were on time and contained all the required information. The owner of the cottage, when contacted, was very pleasant and even supplied us with a cake on arrival! a little touch but thoughtful."

  • Alex Skorecki

"This cottage is wonderful for children, being away from the road with a lovely private garden. It has been modernised sensitively, retaining all the quaint features while adding a very good bathroom and kitchen. We stayed in it many times before the Helpful Holidays era, and we love it even more now."
