About this property

A little slice of heaven, Polly's Bower is a luxurious, dog-friendly retreat for couples set in beautiful rolling Cornish countryside with sensational far-reaching views and an elegant outdoor heated pool. A unique venue, this exquisite conversion of a 300 year old apple crushing barn is situated in south-east Cornwall between the villages of Landrake and Tideford near the city of Plymouth. It occupies a tranquil and tucked away location, amid a patchwork of fields and wooded valleys, yet is a hop from the Cornish Riviera coastline and beaches and the Tamar Valley, which is an area of outstanding natural beauty. Detached and well-screened from the owners neighbouring farmhouse, it is nicely private and makes the perfect escape at anytime of year. Enter the spacious open plan living room and discover a tasteful blend of the modern and the rustic. Oak wood floors, exposed beams, modern art, soft lamps and a deep rug adds to the comfort, elegance and style. A deep sofa and armchair adorned with coordinated cushions and throws sits beside a wood burner and there are books, DVD's and board games for cosy nights in. The modern kitchen is well equipped with gadgets aplenty including a coffee machine. Romantics can enjoy suppers at the dining table set within an inglenook or on the south-facing patio during the warmer months and watch the sun set. A sumptuous bed dressed with plump pillows and soft cotton bed linens awaits in the first floor bedroom. An intimate and open plan design, a low wall separates the bed area from the bathroom area with its free-standing bath, sleek shower and a loo tucked into the corner. Expect to relax and be pampered with White Company hand and bath towels, luxurious toiletries, cotton bathrobes and slippers. A stable door provides access to external steps. Convenient for explorers, you are not far from visitor hotspots at Looe, Polperro, Fowey, Cawsand and Kingsand and the long sandy beach and scenic coast path at Whitsand Bay. Scenic walks can commence from the front door along green lanes and field paths through meadows and woods with pleasant river views. Stop for a refreshment at the nearby local The Rod and Line pub or Heskyn Mill restaurant, return to your sweet cottage and cosset yourself in luxury.

Saltash is dominated by the magnificent Tamar Bridge, Brunels masterpiece of engineering taking people from Devon to Cornwall across the Tamar River, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Saltash retains much of its old Cornish charm with narrow streets rising steeply from the banks of the river, and plenty of shops and interesting inns. From the old quayside there are river trips up stream to Calstock, a pretty village with white cottages on a steep hillside. Here, the 120 foot giant 11-arched Calstock Railway Viaduct towers above the River Tamar and carries one of Britains most picturesque branch lines down to the coast. Saltash offers some beautiful walks along the Tamar, and is only a five minute drive from Plymouth, with a plenty to occupy visitors including the historic Barbican quayside area with cafes, shops and bistros, the National Marine Aquarium and several theatres. A perfect base for exploring the area along the beautiful River Tamar.

It was clean, well equipped and comfortable, and in a beautiful spot. It is very well appointed with a really sympathetic renovation of an old barn and very nicely fitted out. Our cat settled really well, which is quite an achievement! Glorious views, with outside benches and table for when the weather allows, looking out over orchards and fields. Delicious Cornish cream tea provided for arrival, plus other local goodies, and a pint of milk. All you could want, and more, from a holiday cottage. The lovely Tamar Valley is on the doorstep, and easy access to north and south coasts. Tavistock is a really nice market town to explore, and Plymouth is nearby. National Trust Cotehele is really worth a visit. We would love to return. Thank you !

Spotless on arrival with a generous welcome pack and the log-burner lit glowing, warming the cottage nicely. Good comms from the owners. Well-equipped and comfortable. Recommended and we will be booking again.
