Accommodation

Situated close to St. Austell on the South Cornwall coast, Charlestown was built as a Georgian trading port to serve the thriving clay and copper industries. Since the decline in the china clay industry, the harbour remains the epicentre of the village and was recently featured as a location in Tim Burton’s re-creation of Alice in Wonderland. The harbourside is also the setting for Pirates of the Caribbean 4. The annual Charlestown Regatta takes place during the last week of July and offers a fantastic programme of events and entertainment. Charlestown also makes an ideal base to explore the neighbouring towns, each with their own customs, traditions and events. Highlights include the annual Daphne Du Maurier Festival which takes place just a few miles away in the neighbouring town of Fowey, and the Royal Cornwall Show, a celebration of everything Cornish, which takes place annually in June. St Austell itself is the meeting point of old and new Cornwall, of ancient narrow streets and pedestrian precincts with fine shops and restaurants. The Eden Project is nearby offering a unique, educational experience as well as a programme of events and concerts throughout the year.
