About this property

Enjoying breath-taking views over the Lima valley, Villa Alda offers a rare opportunity to experience a beautiful fusion of traditional charm and contemporary luxury in a magnificent location.

The bright living areas within are utterly modern, with subtle clues of the history of the building, including hints of the original stone appearing around the door frames. You are immediately met by the comfortable lounge area, with two sofas in front of the fireplace and the TV, with the delightful backdrop of vast patio doors leading to the terrace beyond. A dining table for seven sits alongside this, benefiting from the same flow of natural light and fresh air. The kitchen extends away from the dining area and has plenty of surface space to make meal preparation hassle-free and enjoyable. There is even a door directly to the garden here to allow in yet more fresh air and daylight to your daily life.

An elegant wooden staircase leads you to the first-floor where three of the four bedrooms are, while the fourth is on the ground floor, perfect for those with reduced mobility. There are four bright and modern bedrooms exuding traditional charm, including rustic stone interior walls, hardwood flooring and iron bedframes. There are two twin rooms and two doubles. Leading from the first-floor double bedroom is a fabulous terrace with a small coffee table, the perfect spot for an evening glass of wine. The first-floor double also enjoys an ensuite bathroom, while there are two more shared bathrooms, one on each floor.

The vast garden itself is a fabulous space in which to enjoy the magnificent, remote location of the villa. The spacious terrace, with incredible views, is ideal for enjoying your morning coffee in the fresh air. The private 8x4m swimming pool will be sure to provide endless hours of fun for the whole group! Old olive trees offer a scenic, shaded spot to enjoy a good book, a snooze or perhaps even a glass of the famous local wine, the Vinho Verde! Be sure to experience an al fresco meal as the sun sets in the distance to make the most of the rural location.

The charming local village of Refoios will ensure your daily needs are met should you wish not to travel too far, while there is a local bar even nearer, at just 1.8km away, for a little tipple in the evening. Perhaps the best thing about this fantastic location is the proximity to the old roman town of Ponte de Lima, just 8km away. It is one of Portugal’s oldest and most historic towns with a delightful range of shops, bars and restaurants among the ornate squares and cobbled alleyways, and a huge market on the river bank every other Monday. The country’s only National Park, the mountainous nature reserve of Peneda Geres National Park is just a 25-minute drive away and hosts prehistoric remains, walking trails and rugged hills as well as deer, wolves and golden eagles!

The delightful market town of Barcelos is just an hour away, while the stunning historical centre of Viana do Castelo is half an hour away, where there are even sandy beaches! The thriving town of Braga, the capital of the district, is about 40km away and hosts many relics of the region’s diverse history. With so much on your doorstep, you can visit a new historical and beautiful town every day!

Minho is a fantastic, largely rural region on the northernmost Atlantic tip of Portugal, bordering the Spanish region of Galiza, with which it shares many attributes. Minho is perhaps most famous as the home of the Vinho Verde, a crisp, dry white wine (although as the name suggests, it is in fact green!) best enjoyed with a local fish dish.

Portugal itself is a small, fascinating country at the most Western point of mainland Europe. The capital, Lisbon, is known for its lively nightlife, with endless bars and clubs full of fun-loving locals and tourists alike, but also has plenty of fascinating history (check out Belém, jam-packed with monuments!) and undulating terrain, famously termed the ‘city of the seven hills’. From Lisbon, it is very quick to travel by the domestic high-speed train line to the city of Braga, which will connect you fairly quickly to Villa Alda.

With a vast coastline with the powerful Atlantic Ocean, Portugal is a true paradise for the keen surfer, or indeed even those looking to try if for the first time. And for those less keen on surfing, the beaches of Portugal are still well worth a visit for their beautifully clear waters and fine sands.
