A three-bedroom villa in the centre of Sesimbra, Villa Horaciala has all the joys of this beautiful coastal town and the Arrábida Natural Park within easy reach. The villa is 200m away from the Praia do Ouro beach, an excellent place for water-sports, and offers its own 9m x 4.5m swimming pool.
Sesimbra provides an excellent location for this attractive villa, a town famed for its superb seafood restaurants and beautiful beaches. It’s peaceful and relaxed, much like this manor house which can accommodate up to seven guests.
Villa Horaciala has a homely, traditional feel inside, with classic wooden furniture in the bedrooms creating a comforting atmosphere. In addition to the swimming pool, you have seven sun loungers, a portable barbecue and a charming outdoor dining area. The terrace area leads you straight into the house where you have another grand dining space on the ground floor, with seating for eight.
Also, downstairs, there’s a fully equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, fridge freezer, microwave and coffee machine, as well as a comfortable living room with television and DVD.
On the first floor, the master suite features an en-suite bathroom with bathtub and is accompanied by a further two bedrooms – one with twin beds and one with three single beds, making this villa an excellent choice for larger families. The villa offers free Wi-Fi and parking for two cars.
Just 40km from Lisbon, Sesimbra is a place you can chill out or be active, with horse-riding schools, golf courses and tennis courts all in the area. Boat trips, diving, dolphin watching and kite surfing are all favourite too, or you can admire the coastline on foot or by bike.
Among the area’s highlights is the magnificent Cabo Espichel with its expansive Atlantic views, around 15km west of Sesimbra, while the stunning beauty of Arrábida extends for miles to the east of town.
South of the capital itself, the Lisbon Coast offers up breath-taking scenery and plenty of charm. Forming part of the Setúbal region, Sesimbra provides some of the most beautiful beaches in this corner of Portugal, and while it’s becoming ever-more popular as a visitor destination, it hasn’t lost its character.
Indeed, this may be what’s drawing the more discerning tourists to its shores. Safe, calm and ideal for families, it also offers excellent value – you can enjoy its excellent seafood, or whatever else you may fancy, for much less than you could in more established resorts.
You can enjoy a vast number of outdoor activities in Sesimbra and the surrounding region – surfing, diving, kayaking and mountain biking are popular, and there are several excellent golf courses too, such as Quinta do Peru and Montado.
For those who prefer to sightsee, the heritage of the area’s towns and cities is evident in churches, castles and historic buildings – the Castelo do Sesimbra offers a pleasant sea view (albeit at the end of a pretty steep climb).
For the most spectacular lookout point in the area, head for Cabo Espichel. A lighthouse and monastery sit on the dizzying cliffs, with the expansive Atlantic Ocean ahead, making this a place to go to reflect and be at one with nature – and many make the trip when visiting Lisbon, around one hour’s drive north.
Extending all the way along the coast from Sesimbra to Setúbal, the Arrábida Natural Park only adds to the wonder of the region. Whether scuba diving, hiking, dolphin spotting, or even hovering above it all in a hot-air balloon, it’s unforgettable in all the best ways.

A privilege to stay in this unique house in the middle of Sesimbra: an oasis in the middle of the city and as lovely as the photos. The kids loved the swimming pool, we loved the breakfast/lunch/dinner on the terrace. We appreciated the convenience of being a stroll away from everything: fish market, bakery, restaurant and the beach. We really recommend the house and the service of the staff who welcomed us and made us feel at home.

It felt like a privilege to stay in this unique house in the middle of Sesimbra: a true oasis in the middle of the city and as lovely as the photos speak of the house. The house breathes history and old Portuguese family life. It is indeed very old and in some aspects appear a bit run down and could do with some make over and more modern amenities ensuring optimal confort (for example the beds could be more confortable and less noisy; the swimming pool would need a proper paint job , the internet could be faster...) however if like us yo love ancient, authentic house and experience you will look past those details and decide to make the most of this special pace. The kids loved the swimming pool, we loved the breakfast/lunch/dinner on the terrace. We appreciated the convenience of being a stroll away from everything: fish market, bakery, restaurant and the beach. We really recommend the house and the service of the staff who welcomed us and made us feel.
