About this property

Set in a quiet cul-de-sac on the edge of the 12th fairway, of the 18-hole Parque da Floresta/Santo António Golf & Spa Club, is the modern and purposely-built Villa Antonio.

This luxurious self-catering villa has terraces cleverly positioned to take best advantage of the Portuguese sun at any time of day, but also has plenty of shaded areas surrounded by mature foliage, for those days when it just a little too hot.

The villa is split into two levels with the sitting room, dining room, kitchen, study and master bedroom on the upper floor.  The kitchenette, the remaining three rooms with the remaining two bathrooms, are located on the ground level, with access to the lush and well manicured gardens and private swimming pool.

The simple and unstated neutral interior, is furnished with carefully chosen furniture and soft-furnishings with accents of British-ness, like the paintings from Scottish artists adorning the walls or the cutlery and crockery bought from John Lewis.  The villa is fitted with underfloor heating for the cooler months, but snuggling up in front of the log-burning fire, is definitely the way to spend a cool-winters evening.

The living-room is light and airy with cool tiled floors, large leather sofas, and home entertainment equipment. The large patio doors lead on to one of the many terraces that overlook the gardens. This is a wonderful place to sit in the early morning sunlight, as you watch the first golfers of the day play the 12th hole. The modern fully equipped kitchen, and the dining room are located next door.  One of the many doors from the hall lead in to the air-conditioned Study, which comes equipped with its separate wide-screen television, DVD player and an XBox 360 games console, perfect for adults and children alike.

The Master bedroom is on the same level as the living/dining rooms, and its focal point is the uniquely designed super-king size sleigh-bed, traditionally crafted from mature cherry timber, and comes with matching bedroom furniture.  There is a private dressing room and a jaw-dropping bathroom with a spa-bath, separate walk-in shower, double basins and a bidet, exuding luxury and style.  The doors lead on to the upper balcony-terrace, and it’s a blessing to be woken up by the beams of the morning sun.  The remaining three bedrooms are all on the ground floor and have patio doors that open out to the terrace, and the garden beyond.

The wow-factor of this beautiful home is without a doubt, its beautifully mature garden, with orange, guava and lemon trees set amongst the well manicured lawns, and beautifully tended flower beds.  Hidden in the trees is an adult sized hammock, perfect to sneak off and while-away some time with a good book.  The outdoor terrace has a fitted gas BBQ, next to a pretty well equipped kitchenette; thus saving everyone the effort and time from using the indoor kitchen.  There is also an out-door family dining table, from which you can serve ample glasses of freshly squeezed orange juice, or freshly made lemonade from fruit picked straight from the garden.  At its very heart is the Hot Tub and the Eternity pool, from which you can soak in the endless carpet of lush green vista.

“Al Gharb” (Arabic: The West) or at least it was to the Arabs who ruled here for nearly 900 years and considered it the end of the ‘known’ world.  On the most westerly tip of Algarve, less then half-hours drive from Lagos is some of southern Europe’s most barren countryside, with its wind-brushed cliff paths and superb swimming coves.

On the edge of the Parque Natural da Costa Vicentina e do Sudoeste Alentejano, tucked between the larger towns of Luz and Vila do Bispo, lies a small white-washed, understated and peaceful little parish of Budens (part of the municipality of Vila do Bispo). It is worth exploring its natural surroundings, as a short hike away is the unknown creek (Ribeira de Budens), with its own little beach known locally as Boco do Rio. Nearby, you will find the remains of a 17th Century Forte de São Luís de Almádena (fortress) which was built to protect the cottages of the local fishermen against the pillaging pirate attacks. A bit further up from Boca do Rio lies the ancient ruins of a Roman villa, where found in-tact were salt water tanks for storing fish and seafood.  It is said these were used by the Romans to produce the famous fermented and spicy fish sauce, known as Garum

However, right next-door to Budens is the 18-hole Parque da Floresta/Santo António Golf & Spa, with its additional amenities on offer like the on-site Italian Restaurant (offering take-away food) Bar, Treatment Spa Centre and Tennis courts; all make for an ideal holiday location for those who consider Golf an ‘Extreme Sport’.

Vila do Bispo is a short drive away from, and probably one of the best little towns to explore in this region.  One of the most charming features is its delightfully historic feel. The landscape is strewn with old white-washed Algarvean style homes, which are situated around the magnificent 16th century church. Another noteworthy feature is the surprising number of restaurants it boasts, which is particularly intriguing given the town’s small size. But what Vila do Bispo lacks in square mileage, it makes up for in flavour! The town’s close proximity to the sea means that fresh seafood is often the most popular item on the menu, particularly the delicacy known as Perceves. For the beach-lovers there are sandy spots to please everyone, from daring surfers to lazy sunbathers, with a variety of choices including the popular family spots (Burgau) and the delightfully quiet beaches (Salema).  Additionally, for the thrill-seekers, there are miles of surfing beaches to explore just north of Cabo de São Vicente headland.

Of course, no trip to this region would be complete without a visit to Cabo de São Vicente and Sagres. It is the most westerly point of mainland Europe, and whilst some may consider it barren and devoid of sights; others will be captivated by the stunning and dramatic scenery.  Regardless, be sure to wear plenty of layers and comfortable shoes, as this headland is continuously battered by strong-winds. Be cautious and prepared, especially if you are exploring along the unprotected and precarious cliff-top paths.
