The coastal village of Portsalon sees visitors from all over the world and is home to one of the best golf courses in the land, not to mention one of Ireland’s most spectacular Blue Flag beaches. Portsalon lies on the banks of Lough Swilly at Ballymastocker Bay and is a wonderful base for touring the stunning Fanad Peninsula. There is a local shop, off licence and café located fifteen minutes’ walk from your Portsalon cottage, plus a small shop, restaurant, as well as a friendly pub, perched along the side of the pier, which offers the perfect spot to enjoy a refreshing drink in the sunshine can be found in just a five minute stroll. A little further afield and you can visit the Glenveagh National Park to soak up the remote and rugged wilderness by car, foot or bike. Resting on the western bank of Lough Swilly is the seaside resort of Portsalon and home to one of Ireland's top golf courses. Portsalon makes for a wonderful base for exploring the Fanad Peninsula and boasts a picturesque harbour at Ballymastocker Bay where you will find one of the most spectacular beaches in Ireland. Visitors can try out many outdoor pursuits including golf, surfing, fishing, diving and kayaking or if you prefer to explore the region on wheels, the Knockella Coastal drive encompasses excellent views of Ballymastocker Bay and Lough Swilly. The historic town of Rathmullan, south of Portsalon provides a lovely afternoon out where you can take a tour of the Kinnegar Brewery and hopefully sample some of local produce! With something for everyone, Portsalon is a wonderful location for Donegal and the North West.
