The River Fane runs at the bottom of the garden and is very popular for fishing, while there is another lake for coarse fishing just 5 minutes' drive away. The small village of Louth lies an hour north of Dublin and provides a wonderful base to explore Ireland’s smallest county. It is home to local shops and pubs where you can mingle with the locals, and perhaps try your first pint of Guinness! Spend an afternoon playing pitch and putt, or improve your poetry at The Patrick Kavanagh Centre in Inniskeen, Co. Monaghan. The vibrant town of Dundalk is only a short drive away, with plenty of shops, traditional pubs and places to eat, as well as a leisure centre with swimming pool, and a children's activity area. Why not venture as far as the heritage town of Carlingford, near Carlingford Lough, home to cobbled streets, charming boutiques and excellent cuisine? Or, head for Newgrange in County Meath to visit the prehistoric monument site or the Bru Na Boinne Visitor Centre and Pet Farm.
