The historic village of Ballinamuck is situated in the north of County Longford, close to the borders of Leitrim and Cavan. Literally translated to ‘mouth of the ford of the pig’, Ballinamuck is a wonderful area to discover the mass of farmland, lakes, low lying hills and pristine boglands of North Longford. Ballinamuck was once the site of the Battle of Ballinamuck and there is a local heritage centre which houses an interesting exhibition of the events of the battle. The centre also offers guidance on local walks, which retrace the steps of those who fought during the battle.

Sean the owner is friendly and made us feel welcome.

Hosts very friendly and helpful. Great rural location for a nice quiet holiday away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Would recommend.

Operation of all appliances were self explanatory, the facilities all worked faultlessly, and Sean the owner was very welcoming. Minor niggles: It got a little cool on occasion in the evening, yes, in June! But there was no heating. I daresay if asked for, it would have been provided, although a small fan heater in the living room would have sufficed, rather than the whole central heating being turned on. Oddly enough on one occasion the remotely controlled central heating did come on briefly on one occasion when it was not required! Bathroom: no extractor fan, or heated towel rail. The aforementioned in no way spoiled the holiday, and therefore I have no hesitation in recommending Rose Cottage as a good place to stay for an Irish holiday in Co. Longford.
