There are sea fishing trips leaving daily from Roundstone harbour, and the chance to sail in a traditional Galway Hooker between May and September. Golfers will love the challenge provided by the Ballyconneely links course, just eight miles away, and fishermen will find ample stocks in the local lakes and rivers. A visit to the lively city of Galway is a must and you can also discover a different approach to life on the Aran Islands, accessible by air or sea. Roundstone, in the Connemara region, County Galway, lies on the western arm of Bertraghboy Bay. The entrance to Roundstone harbour is marked by a large, round stone, and the bay itself is often referred to as Roundstone Haven. Roundstone offers pubs, restaurants, cafés, shops and a childrens playground, plus there is a traditional Irish night in the summer and a number of festivals take place throughout the year. The village is very popular with artists both local and international, and plays host to the Roundstone Arts Week, a prominent date in the Irish arts calendar. Roundstone is full of historical and geographical points of interest including the remains of a monument to St Brendan, an impressive lighthouse and the bell tower of the Franciscan Monastery, which now stands in the Michael Killeen Park.
