The Ballycroy National Park is set amongst 11,000 hectares covering a vast, uninhabited and unspoilt wilderness with sweeping grasslands to imposing mountains. The area is a haven for wildlife with many species to be observed including birds, deer and otters. Just a few miles away from your Ballycroy cottage is the popular destination of Achill Island. Here you can enjoy a variety of pubs and restaurants as well as an abundance of local art galleries and local craft shops. The island has five Blue Flag beaches and is the starting point for the Great Western Greenway, which winds its way from Achill to Westport through the majestic countryside. The town of Westport is a short distance away and is famed for its superb nightlife with many pubs playing traditional music and you can discover the fascinating Clew Bay or conquer the mighty Croagh Patrick mountain! Ballycroy is a village in County Mayo, in a coastal area known for its sailing and for the angling, salmon and sea-trout fishing on offer in the area surrounding it. Ballycroy has two pubs and a shop, and is home to Ireland's sixth National Park. The visitor centre for the Park is easily found in the centre of the village, and with its tearoom and insight into life in the Park, makes for a great starting point to your time exploring the 11,000 acres of bog and mountainous terrain.
