About this property

Belcarra 2 miles. Situated just two miles from the attractive village of Belcarra in County Mayo and 6.5 miles from the bustling town of Castlebar is this superb detached cottage. This delightful cottage was once the local convenience store and has been lovingly restored from its original form to offer guests all the luxury of a modern property, but with the charm of a traditional Irish cottage including stone floors, a traditional half door, a thatched roof and even the original shop front! Set over two floors, this cottage boasts three well-appointed bedrooms, each with an en-suite for extra comfort and luxury during your stay. The cottage benefits from two stylish kitchens, each with French doors; they provide an ideal place for you to prepare and cook a delicious meal for your loved ones. The main sitting room features a woodburning stove, which you can curl up beside and enjoy some quality time over a bottle of wine with friends. For a spot of downtime, there are two additional sitting rooms where you can relax with a good book or the local paper after a jam-packed day of adventure. As you step outside, you will find a large garden with mature trees and patio areas with furniture, and to the front of the cottage, in the neighbouring field, are the ruins of a tower house! The village of Belcarra boasts a local shop and pub, along with a riverside loop walk, which takes you along the Manulla River, a tributary of the River Moy. Just a short drive will take you to Castlebar, home to excellent shopping and a wide variety of pubs and eateries. The popular harbour town of Westport is also close by, home to Croagh Patrick, the Greenway Cycle route, craft shops and traditional Irish music. A fantastic cottage with plenty to see and do!

Plenty of sheep and cows to keep you company. Mai and Jim are the best hosts you could wish for. We would love to stay again sometime soon.

The cottage and garden are well equipped, well maintained and spacious for four for of us - especially as the 'children ' are a teen and a young adult. The cottage is a great base for exploring County Mayo, which is beautiful, and for dipping into neighbouring Counties. It gives access to countryside, lakes, hills and coast. Finally but not least, if anyone deserves the title of 'super hosts', it is Mai and James.

It is perfect for traveling the west coast of Ireland. We wandered up and down the coast and came home every day to gorgeous surroundings and beautiful sunsets that we watched from the upper garden. We loved the beautiful old thatched roofed main house and the convenience of two full kitchens. The house is nestled among sheep and cow pastures across from the remains of an old Irish tower. It couldn’t have been more picturesque. Mai and Jim were so kind, welcoming and helpful during our stay. We highly recommend them as hosts. My only regret is that I never took a bubble bath in the amazing claw footed tub that was located in one of the three full bathrooms.
