Head further in to the historic quarter and come across art galleries, boutiques and beautiful old architecture as you explore the cobbled lanes. The town becomes especially vibrant on a Wednesday morning when the large market is set up in the old quarter offering delightful Provençal produce and plenty of lavender-based souvenirs to take home.

Beyond Saint-Rémy, take time to appreciate the stunning landscapes of Les Alpilles Natural Regional Park with idyllic villages, olive groves, pine forests and rugged limestone peaks, ideal for long walks, hikes, cycling routes and horse-riding. Les Baux-de-Provence (10km) is dramatically perched on a rocky outcrop with its medieval chateau and breathtaking vistas whilst hilltop Eygalières (12km) has managed to enchant A-list celebrities with its flower-filled lanes and gastronomic restaurants. Maussane-les-Alpilles (10km) is another gem of the region, loved for its extra virgin olive oil – pick some up at the Thursday morning market.  

Other wonderful days out include the historic cities of Avignon (22km) and Nimes (48km) with their rich history and unesco World Heritage sites whilst L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (33km) is a paradise for antique lovers with its Sunday morning brocante, one of the most famous in southern France.
