About this property

Villa Garrigue is a contemporary, architect-designed villa, carefully crafted to blend effortlessly into its environment. Nestled amidst the Mediterranean garrigue and limestone, this is a private and quiet haven, yet it is only 10 minutes away from magical Nîmes.

The design is Scandinavian inspired; sleek modern lines, spacious and bright rooms, soothing colours and wooden decking take pride of place alongside the local flora and stone. Large picture windows invite the outdoors indoors and fill the rooms with light. A good night’s sleep is guaranteed in this peaceful setting and thanks to air-conditioned bedrooms and comfortable beds in the villa’s five bedrooms. A stunning heated swimming pool and large terrace and sundeck blend in beautifully with the trees and local shrubs, found on this 3000 square metre private domaine.

Just a 10-minute drive away is magical Nîmes, which boasts France’s finest collection of Roman remains, including the impressive 2000-year-old arena, la maison carrée, the Temple of Diana and the Tour Magne. The famous arena is the stage to spectacular events even today, such as concerts and bullfighting (killing-free!) and one of these should not be missed. Besides the Roman ruins, Nîmes also has a charming historic centre, tree-lined boulevards, parks, cathedrals and one of the oldest city parks in France, Les Jardins de la Fontaine. Nîmes is also a gateway to Provence, Pont du Gard, the Cevennes National Park and even the Camargue. The sea is only 40 kilometres away.

Villa Garrigue is a thing of beauty in a natural and unique setting in one of France’s magical regions; a region full of history, charm and beautiful landscapes topped off with great wines and cuisine made for enjoying in the Mediterranean sunshine which produced them.

Just a 10-minute drive away is the magical city of Nîmes (5km) with its fine collection of Roman remains including 2000 year old Maison Carrée, one of the best preserved Roman temples in the country plus the Temple of Diana and the Tour Magne. Enjoy the city’s cafes, bars and restaurants in the tree-lined boulevards or narrow streets of the charming old town or head to the city’s gardens, Jardins de la Fontaine, for some shady relaxation. Just north of the city is the stunning Roman aqueduct, Pont du Gard (26km), now a unesco World Heritage site.

This area has a wealth of activities with both golf and horse-riding within a 10-minute drive, wine-tasting tours in the area, many cycling and walking paths as well as canoe hire on the Gardon River.

Should you wish to spend a day at the sea, the long, sandy beaches of L’Espiguette (53km) are under an hour. If you go even more off the beaten track you will be able to find some of Languedoc’s most stunning, wild beaches, many backed by beautiful pine trees and endless sand dunes.

Nîmes is also a gateway to the Cévennes National Park to the north, a vast area of incredible landscapes, rugged mountains, river gorges and traditional villages with some spectacular walking routes for all abilities.

Alternatively head south to discover the natural beauty of the Camargue. A beautiful combination of land, lagoon and sea with pink flamingos, wild white horses, rice fields and endless wild countryside, this natural park covers 900 square kilometres of land. You can also see the traditional and interesting farms where the Gardiens (cowboys) raise bulls for the bullrings of Languedoc and Spain.

The delights of Provence can also be reached within an hour. In the heart of the Parc Naturel Regional des Alpilles you will find the charming town of St-Remy-de-Provence (47km) where you can soak up the true Provencal way of life, especially on markets days. Van Gogh’s precious Arles (39km) and Baux-de-Provence (48km), one of France’s acclaimed ‘plus beaux villages’, and the small but lively Provençal city of Avignon (47km) are also worthy of a day trip in this idyllic part of southern France.
