This holiday villa is located 15 minutes outside of the walled city of Carcassonne, your jumping-off point to the region. You might fly into the airport here, and take time to appreciate the citadel that dominates the town. Another (more quaint) town of note is Mirepoix; get your fresh produce here at the excellent Monday market.

Your villa is perfectly poised for you to drink in the Languedoc-Roussillon wine region. This region borders the Mediterranean (what better excuse to get to the coast?), and offers exciting, experimental wines that hold great value. Here you're a wine pioneer! Who needs Bordeaux or Champagne? A toast with Crémant de Limoux is just as sweet.

The beautiful region of Languedoc-Roussillon is filled with vineyards and sunflowers. Wine tasting classes are readily available including in the local village itself. You can easily catch a glimpse of The Pyrenees which are the perfect excursion.

The location is wonderful for visiting the many Cathar castles and the fairytale ancient city of old Carcassonne is a must for young and old alike.

The "rose" city of Toulouse makes a great day out and the Mediterranean beaches are little over an hour away. It's only 2 hours to the border with Spain!

Carcassonne

The fortified town of Carcassonne - a restored medieval fortress - is rich in culture. Domaine Horte is also very close to Mirepoix - a small town with a very wide square with some ancient timber-framed houses. It is well worth a visit for the weekly market which takes place on Mondays.

Other sites of interest include: St. Hilarire, which is only ten minutes down the road and has a beautiful Abbey, and Limoux, which is a carnival town always bustling with activity. During the summer months there is always plenty of activity. it is a great place to have a coffee and a croissiant.

Accommodation

Lovely, peaceful and welcoming Villa divided over two floors. Downstairs there is a vast, bright lounge with French doors that lead onto the large garden. There are comfortable sofas to relax on, creating an ideal space for guests to be able to unwind and be together. Off of the lounge there is a large dining room and well equipped kitchen with an additional dining table.

Upstairs there are three charmingly furnished bedrooms. Enjoy waking up in the fabulous master bedroom with a double bed. The other bedrooms have both double and single beds available. There is a family shower room and wet room upstairs. Wi-Fi Internet access is available at the property and fans are provided.
Escape from the sun to the upstairs TV room with UK television with Sky, DVD player and comfortable seating. French doors open onto stairs which lead down the terrace and pool area.

Domaine Horte has an exceptionally large garden with a river running through the bottom. There is also a barbecue: the sun terrace and provides a great space for alfresco dining with friends. Take a refreshing dip in the pool (5m x 10m), perfect for adults and children. There is plenty of space to bask in the sun or shade.
