About this property

Château Emirol is a unique and rare find given its lovely setting and fantastic location near Libourne and Saint Emilion.

Built from traditional Girondine stone in 1818, Château Emirol is located in the Fronsadais wine territory. The inviting surroundings of the Château come complete with a tennis court and swimming pool. The hillside setting offers guests great views of the countryside, as well as the surrounding working vineyards. With direct access from the Chateau grounds, the undulating hills of Fronsac will appeal to those who enjoy hiking, cycling, fishing and horse-riding.

Château Emirol is superbly positioned, offering quick and easy access to routes to discover  the World Heritage site of St Emilion and the adjoining world-renowned vineyards of Pomerol. The bustling, lively market town of Libourne, which hosts the most wonderful markets three mornings a week, is less than 10 minutes by car. The cosmopolitan and elegant city of Bordeaux is less than a half hour’s drive away. The unspoiled Atlantic coastline is also within very easy reach. For wine lovers, The Haut Medoc and Sauterne regions are both within a reasonably short drive.

For dining out, opposite the Château's gates is a traditional, local restaurant overlooking a lake and the surrounding woodlands. Libourne and St Emilion have a vast variety of restaurants ranging from the traditional style French Brasseries to high end gourmet Michelin restaurants.

The gates from the chateau lead on to cycling and hiking paths, across vineyards and woodland areas. Horseriding is available in the nearby village of Fronsac. Canoeing is also possible on the Dordogne river, and fishing at the lake directly opposite the property is available. River cruises are available from Libourne. Neighbouring Chateaux offer all year round visits to their spectacular caves.

For local shopping, the market town of Libourne is closest and is a 10 minute drive. You will find all local produce available for sale at the market, held 3 mornings a week, and on the perimeter of the town there are a wide range of major supermarkets.

Bordeaux's Merignac international airport is a 30 minute drive and Bergerac is one hour from the Chateau. The Mainline railway station is Libourne which serves the TGV from Paris and other rail routes.

A 15 minute drive brings you to Saint Emilion which is renowned the world over for its red wine. Saint Emilion is a medieval town and can be likened to an amazing open-air museum. It has a remarkable underground monolithic church dug out of solid limestone. It is an ideal spot for either a relaxing stroll, or to take a deeper look into the town’s history.

There are numerous historical monuments, museums and galleries, gourmet restaurants famed for their Bordelaise cuisine and countless designer shops to visit in the cosmopolitan city of Bordeaux which is famed for its architectural heritage of the 18th century. It is a 25 minutes drive.

An hours drive brings you to the Atlantic Ocean with its sand dunes, large ocean breakers, some of Europe’s finest unspoiled beaches and glamorous Cap Ferret, where the wealthy of today still choose to spend their summers and dine in some of the finest seafood restaurants to be found on this coastline. Measuring 107 meters, the Dune de Pyla is Europe‘s highest sand dune. From the summit there are truly breathtaking views of the ocean, the surrounding woodlands and the distant Pyrenees. It is well worth the hike up just so you can run down it. For the young at heart, surf enthusiasts should visit Lacanau, which hosts one of Europe’s biggest surf competitions. It is a really fun place with plenty of restaurants and beachwear boutiques. Alternatively, you could visit the charming, buzzing ocean side town of Arcachon with its oyster bays and its protected basin that is ideal for children.

In the neighbouring Dordogne, a suggested day trip would be to explore the well known Caves of Lascaux. Closer to the Chateau is the famous citadelle of Blaye.

Dear Jane, just a short note to say that we had a lovely time at your property. We were all impressed as to how well it was equipped and it was a pleasure to be in a house which had everything that we could have wanted. We had temperatures of 34 to 37 C so the pool was a godsend ( and so was the ice maker in the fridge/freezer!) I liked the the restaurant opposite the gates to the property (Chez Carles). Madame who runs it can be a bit frosty (at first )but she seems to have the same attitude with the locals, apart from the Gendarmes who eat their every day! The food is hearty and good value L'Escapade up the road was very good and extremely good value as well. Thanks once again.

We are six Australians and have recently spent a week at Chateau Emirol on 20th May 2017. We were thrilled to find the Chateau was everything and more than we could imagine and very true to what was advertised by Oliver's Travels which is always a good thing especially when we travelled so far. The grounds were fabulous and we really enjoyed the pool each afternoon after a long day sightseeing. The Chateau was very comfortable , nicely decorated and very well stocked. Out night with Mathieu was exceptional, an experience we won't forget . The location was great very peaceful but close enough to Libourne for supplies. Thank you Jane for a great stay

Hi Jane, a rather belated note to say how much we enjoyed our holiday in Bordeaux staying at your Chateau. It was very spacious, well appointed and very well equipped (especially the kitchen) and the pool and surrounding area were superb. We loved eating outside on the terrace and the garden was great for exploring - tomatoes, plums... delicious. Giles made the best plum frangipani tart for us! Finley went to great effort to write the thank you letter from us all and in his words it says how we all felt. Many thanks for the lovely wine which we all supped and enjoyed - Christian was absolutely charming and made us very welcome when we paid him a visit to buy some wine.
