About this property

On the banks of the Vézère is the charming La Rivière, a four bedroom townhouse with a pretty garden and lovely views of the river. Located in characterful Le Bugue, you just a short stroll from the heart of this traditional market town and it is a wonderful base for exploring this captivating region.

From the road you step into a colourful little garden full of hydrangeas and geraniums and straight through the front door into the welcoming home. The four pretty bedrooms are on the top two floors, two of them en-suite and some with romantic river views. On the ground floor there is ample space with a traditional dining room leading through to a well-equipped kitchen with everything a keen cook may need. The real draw is the bright and airy living room with French doors opening up to a wonderful side terrace, the perfect place to sip your morning coffee or enjoy long evening meals with views of the river.

The lower floor, with a smaller kitchen and laundry area, leads out to the lower terrace which stretches across the house, parallel to the riverside, towards a walled garden with roses and big shady trees; a pretty place to sit and watch the world go by.

You can wander down the river to Le Bugue within a few minutes where you can pick up your morning croissants from the boulangerie, find pretty patisseries, discover new wines in one of the finest wine caves in the region and dine in excellent restaurants. Don’t miss the bustling market on a Tuesday where you can pick up local produce to cook up a feast to serve on your river-view terrace. Families can follow the road out of town where you will discover the nearby Aquarium du Périgord Noir, Jungle Golf and Pre-historic maze.

This is a great location near both the Vézère and Dordogne rivers, an area full of pretty medieval villages, fine wines, truffles, vibrant local markets, canoeing on the rivers and unspoilt views of stunning countryside. The pretty Dordogne villages of Limeuil and Tremolat, with its Michelin starred restaurant, are both within a short drive and enchanting places to visit.

Other magical trips out should include sampling the delicious black truffle in the city of Périgueux, heading east to the exquisite town of Sarlat or simply exploring some of France’s Plus Beaux Villages along the Dordogne such as La Roque Gageac, Beynac and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle. Not forgetting the beautiful city of Bergerac with its unmissable Maisons de Vins.
