Down a long country driveway, surrounded by vast grounds and trees, you will find Maison Campagne, a delightful French farmhouse full of character and charm. With countryside around you, it’s hard to imagine you are only fifteen minutes drive from the stunning small city of Bergerac, with its famous Maison des Vins.
The inside of the maison is remarkable with impressive high ceilings, exposed beams and a cosy fire-place in the open-plan living space, adding to the old-fashioned ambience throughout. There are two bedrooms downstairs, as well as the family bathroom, then head up the traditional wooden staircase to two more spacious doubles, one particularly striking with white mansarded beams. There’s an annexe outside with a further bedroom and bathroom, ideal for those looking for a little more independence.
The style of the home is one of rustic simplicity; this is the real and characterful France where friends and family can meet, dine together enjoying amazing cuisine and fine local wines. There’s a lovely terrace with table and chairs by the large swimming pool, ideal for leisurely lunches or summery evening meals with the barbecue as the sun sets for the day. The gardens allow plenty of space for lazing under a shady tree or finding a quiet spot for your morning coffee.
The nearby village is charming with a 12th century church and a picturesque private castle just above or seek out some great restaurants in Bergerac. Wine-lovers can sample some fine wines at nearby Château de Monbazillac and be sure take a trip the totally charming hilltop wine-town of Saint-Émilion or the marvellous city of Bordeaux.
Other magical trips out should include sampling the delicious black truffle in the city of Périgueux, heading north to the exquisite town of Sarlat or simply exploring some of France’s Plus Beaux Villages in the region such as Monflaquin and Monpazier. Not forgetting the charming village of Issigeac with its vibrant market on a Sunday morning.
Maison Campagne is ideal for anyone looking for authentic Perigordian character and charm in a brilliant location for some of Dordogne’s most beautiful villages, towns and cities.
