About this property

Just a short drive from Zadar in northern Dalmatia, Villa Daco offers privacy, great views and lots of outside space. This modern 4-bedroom villa is in a fine location for exploring historic cities and nature parks, with Zadar itself the oldest city in Croatia – and it has even been called the coolest.

Villa Daco sits in its beautiful gardens, with terrace areas and a gorgeous 40 sqm swimming pool which is entirely private. Seating and dining areas offer the opportunity to embrace the outdoor life, and the tranquil Mediterranean gardens are filled with herbs, with olive groves and fig trees beyond.

The house can accommodate up to eight guests and blends modern and antique furnishings to great effect. The downstairs living area consists of a cool lounge with a plush sofa and satellite TV, an open dining area with a rustic tinge, and an adjacent kitchen equipped with oven, fridge freezer, coffee machine and handsome wooden cabinets.

Doors lead you straight from the living area to the terrace, where you also have a barbecue. A selection of gins is available to try at Villa Daco (an additional charge will apply), in a special tasting experience.

Also on the ground floor are also two beautifully styled bedrooms, each with en-suite bathrooms, satellite TV and air conditioning. Two more can be found on the upper level, also with these facilities. All of the bedrooms and bathrooms have a chic feel, and certainly impressed with their design and high-quality furnishings – a wonderful free-standing bathtub is just one of the highlights.

Quieter than many of the locations further down the coast, Zadar remains unspoilt and largely undiscovered. Its stunning sunsets, beautiful waterfront and captivating Sea Organ are reason enough to visit, and you can also add some top-notch seafood restaurants and regular music festivals to the list. It’s a joy to wander Zadar’s Old Town streets and marketplace, and excursions out of town are rewarding too – beach lovers will want to take a boat trip to the beautiful Saharan.

Set on a small peninsula on the Dalmatian Coast, looking out towards the island of Ugljan in the Adriatic, the historic city Zadar has a quirky, cosmopolitan character and enjoys some wonderful natural surroundings. The Roman ruins of the Forum, with St Donatus’ Church at its centre, give you a good look at the city’s long and eventful past, as does the 12th-century St Anastasia’s Cathedral – albeit much of it reconstructed after heavy wwii bombing.

Two of the city’s best-known attractions are still more recent additions, and innovative ones at that. Both the creations of local architect Nikola Bašić, the Sun Salutation and Sea Organ are worth seeing (and, in the case of the latter, hearing). The Sun Salutation uses solar energy to create a spectacular light show, illuminating the pavement, while the Sea Organ creates tuneful, wave-generated tones in the stone stairs which descend into the ocean – quite hypnotic to hear.

The Old Town’s mix of architectural styles makes it an intriguing place to inspect, and the stalls which line the marketplace keep plenty of local traditions alive. One of those is wine-making, and Zadar’s proximity to Croatia’s key production regions guarantees you will find plenty of high-quality examples in its bars and restaurants. The food is pretty good too, with Zadar’s fish restaurants offering the freshest of fare in some pleasant surroundings.

Croatia’s incredible National Parks are never far away, and you won’t want to miss the cascading waterfalls of Krka or the emerald Plitvice Lakes.

Those wishing to head for the hills have the Velebit mountains to hike their way through, and if it’s beaches you’re after, Saharun is reckoned to be one of the most beautiful you’ll find. This, and the numerous charming islands which lie just off the coast are easily accessible by boat from Zadar.
