About this property

Nestled in the calm countryside of the southern region of Istria, Villa Zagora is a masterpiece of modernity under a traditional Mediterranean terracotta roof.

Built as recently as 2015, this is a genuinely modern delight, designed with contemporary lifestyles in mind. The large living area is the perfect place to relax in comfort on an evening, with a large sofa, TV and even a PlayStation! Along the corridor, connected in an open plan style, is the dining area and kitchen.

With sleek fitted cabinets and even a breakfast bar, this is a thoroughly modern abode. On this floor, there is also a guest WC and one bedroom. For total invigoration, on the first floor, there is even a sauna!

There are four sublime bedrooms, each one with bright décor, plenty of natural light and open, high ceilings. Each is accompanied by an equally sleek bathroom, with modern rain-showers and large mirrors. Three of the rooms are on the first floor, where you will also find a terrace with a set of tables and chairs.

Here you can appreciate the calm location and its peaceful surroundings, as you sip a coffee or a glass of the local wine and enjoy the tranquillity of rural Istria.

In the garden, you are first met with a lovely veranda, where you can play a little table football or table tennis, ideal for kids (and big kids!). There’s even an exercise bike if you need to burn off some energy! You’ll find four bicycles for your enjoyment – be sure to get out and explore the vibrant surroundings.

On the veranda, there is also a large dining table with space for the whole group to sit comfortably and enjoy some alfresco meals in the glorious weather! There is a lovely great pool, exclusively for your enjoyment, surrounded by sun loungers on one side and a casual seating area on the other.

Just ten minutes away from Učka Nature Park, a sprawling protected area with hiking routes leading to canyons, waterfalls and historic sites, you’ll find an unspoilt nature a stone’s throw away.

In fact, one-third of the Istrian territory is forested, and the rest is carpeted with vineyards, olive trees, pastures and orchards, with ancient walled cities perched atop hills in the mountainous landscape, so you need merely stroll out of your front door to find the richness of Istria. For a beach day out, head to the bay of Rabač, just a short drive away, for a genuinely Istrian gem.

Villa Zagora is perfectly positioned for exploring a little of nature, the famous coastline and a myriad of quaint Istrian towns, just ten minutes from the magical Učka Nature Park and the shimmering sea, and 15 minutes from the charming town of Labin.

Once the largest mining centre of Croatia, Labin is now an art haven filled with galleries! The town overlooks the bay of Rabač, an Istrian paradise with a pebble beach and crystal-clear waters, and the perfect place to try a little snorkelling, swimming and diving!

A charming heart-shaped peninsula in the north-west of Croatia, Istria is warm, welcoming and perfectly-sized – you can drive the length in around an hour, putting everything within easy reach!

From breath-taking scenery, rich history and a world-famous culinary scene – you will find it all in Istria! As a former part of the Venetian Republic, this region has seen many rulers from the Romans, Byzantines and Austro-Hungarians to the Italians and Yugoslavians.

Now, a myriad of enchanting towns and villages, rich in history and culture, are nestled among the undulating countryside.

Active holiday-makers will be delighted with the offerings: from windsurfing in Medulin to scuba diving in the Brijuni National park and rock climbing, hang-gliding and walking in Buzet along the 15km ‘seven waterfalls’ walk, Istria has it all.

Both along the dramatic coastal paths and in the mountains inland, you will find an abundance of natural paths for cycling (including the scenic Parenzana route over an old railway line from Viznada to the Slovenian border) and rugged off-road hiking trails.

Pick up a trail-map from any of the Tourist Offices, for loads of well-marked routes around the coast and in the Cape Kamenjak. Much like its neighbouring Italy, Istria is a gastronome’s paradise, home to world-class cuisine and endless rows of vineyards.

Be sure to try the local wines, which are often sweet and fruity, using a wide variety of grapes including white Malvasia, red Terrano and Moscato. Istria is especially famous for its truffles, which you will find served with any dish and sauce!

Both Rijeka and Pula have international airports within a short drive of the villa, while Pula is the central hub for those getting ferries, although there is daily ferry between Poreč and Venice.
