"I was fully aware that there was no parking but it would have been helpful to be told that we had to reverse in to unload the bags, we arrived in the dark and it was extremely difficult to get back our. Heating was an issue the log burner was excellent but heated the front room only. The central heating was on a timer that we had no control over, which meant that to use the kitchen at times you were wearing hats and gloves. I am Scottish so a little cold does not usually affect me."

"Cosy, warm, well equipped. Excellent welcome pack. Lots of walks on the doorstep. Good local dining options. Hanging rail in main bedroom and an extra light in living room would be welcome. Overall very peaceful and relaxing."

"Great little cottage. Wonderful, varied area with easy access to Edinburgh via Tweedbank station. Stairs quite easy unlike many older cottages. Excellent electric cooker for those who normally use gas."

"Super cosy cottage with a lot of nice personal touches. The wood burner was excellent and the jam, free range eggs, bannock cake and supply of firewood was hugely appreciated. Lovely walk across to Melrose and our family and dogs felt at home straight away. Thank you Karen."

"This is an area we know very well, the cottage was well placed to visit all the Border towns. It was lovely to be able to walk down the road, across the suspension bridge over the River Tweed and into Melrose. The garden was very inviting with super views across the river to the Eilden hills, the view and the colours changed as often as the weather so always a fresh view to admire. Plenty to do within a short distance. The neighbours were very friendly and helpful as was Karen the owner. We would certainly consider going back again."

"Had a great week in Overbutton Cottage making the most of our Historic Houses membership visiting several historic properties in the local area. The cottage was good for us, comfortable, well equipped, with the enclosed garden for the dogs and a generous welcome pack including eggs, home grown garden produce and a Selkirk Bannock. We were wary of having to walk through nextdoor's garden to reach Overbutton, but it wasn't an issue and the neighours were very friendly as Indeed was everyone we encountered when walking in the village! Having to park out on the main road wasn't too much of a problem and we found a space ok each time we returned to the cottage. Enjoyed the walk into Melrose over the bridge. Really good ice-cream shop across from the abbey. All in all a really pleasant week."

"Had a lovely time with great walks nearby. Cottage is perfect with everything you need. In the evenings we enjoyed the games books and dvds supplied. Beds were comfy. Also handy to have a washing machine. Would stay again."

"Idyllic country position.Everything you could want in the cottage."

"Lovely cottage, in a gorgeous location. Wonderful "welcome pack" from Karen, the owner, with lots of tasty goodies, very much appreciated. I think the cottage is suitable for 2 adults, and perhaps one child, as second bedroom would be too small for 2 adults. Garden is lovely, with beautiful countryside views. I was sad to leave !"

"Lovely, well appointed cottage in a great location with fantastic views. One of the best welcome packs we have received. Appreciated the items for the dog such as bowls etc. Lots to see and do in the local area such as walks, historic sites and shopping. Gattonside has two excellent restaurants with many more within an easy short walk to melrose. The owner was easy to contact and very pleasant and helpful. Would highly recommend this cottage."

"Lovely cottage and garden. Comfy beds and attractively furnished. The owner has gone to a lot of trouble to make this cottage inviting, with very thoughtful welcome pack including essentials, flowers and fruit. A real little gem!"

"We were very happy with our stay at Overbutton Cottage. The main photo doesn't really do it justice - I passed it over a couple of times initially while browsing places to stay. The location is great - we liked that we didn't really need the car once we had arrived - Gattonside is a very attractive village - we had a lovely meal at the Hoebridge and appreciated being able to walk and have a drink with our meal - and very pretty and easy walk across the river into Melrose as well. There was also great walking from the door - we were only there for the weekend so just had one (very muddy) walk on the Eildon Hills - but there are a couple of long distance footpaths that pass through Melrose so loads of choice. I was a bit concerned before we came about the "pull out bed" in the second bedroom - we have two tall teenagers and didn't want arguments about who would get the short straw - but when we arrived they were already made up and both just looked like normal full size single beds. Karen went out of her way to make sure we had a good time - log burner was on for our arrival, some lovely welcome treats, and she came straight out to sort out an initial glitch with the wifi which worked fine after that. The view across to the Eildons was absolutely stunning. Lots to do locally - we took the kids ice skating in Kelso but if we'd been there longer we would have taken advantage of train station and gone in to Edinburgh. We didn't really get on with the coffee pods and would personally have preferred a cafetiere but can't think of anything else that we didn't like."

"This is a cuddle of a cottage, beautifully situated overlooking snow capped hills. Quirky village, quiet and restful within easy walking distance of restaurants, pubs, independent shops and many walking opportunities. The owner has clearly considered what would make our (your) stay comfortable - with decent coffee, fruit, milk and eggs left, fresh flowers, the wood burner lit for our arrival. It all added up to a wonderful weekend. We look forward to returning soon."
