About this property

Located in the heart of delightful Porthleven, Elfin Cottage, whilst away from the centre, is just a short walk to the long sandy beach and picturesque harbour. With historic inns, modern restaurants, art galleries and individual shops, Porthleven has much to offer. Elfin Cottage is an attractive former fisherman's cottage, presented in a modern, contemporary style to a good standard. Set over two floors, it is suitable for both families and groups of friends and also welcomes two pets. The ground floor is home to the kitchen/breakfast room and a sitting room/dining area with wood burning stove as well as a shower room with WC whilst upstairs are two double bedrooms and a twin room as well as the family bathroom with bath and shower over.Outside there is a pretty south-facing enclosed garden with garden furniture on which to relax after a busy day of discovery. Walkers will enjoy the stroll along to Cornwall’s largest freshwater lake of Loe pool and 3 miles away in Helston, children can have fun on the boating lake or a visit to Flambards Theme Park and Victorian Village or the town’s museum.Further afield are some fabulous beaches namely, Rinsey, Praa Sands and Church Cove and Marazion is the gateway to the infamous St Michael's Mount which can be walked across when the tide is right.

Porthleven is one of south west Cornwall’s hidden coastal gems, located near Helston famous for its annual Flora Dance Festival. Situated between Lizard Point and Land’s End, Porthleven retains the feel of a traditional Cornish fishing village, enjoying uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean and the beautiful Cornish coastline. The iconic clock tower sits on the harbour entrance and the pubs, shops, cafés and restaurants cluster around the historic picturesque inner harbour, where there is plenty of boating and marine activity.

Just a couple of points of recommendation back door and front door were difficult to open from the inside as wood was warped. Also no cleaning products and not enough black bin bags.

..Having hoped for a peaceful and restful holiday in a Cornish cottage, I am sorry to advise that the lasting memory from our stay in Elfin Cottage will be the barking and howling of two black Labrador dogs from the cottage opposite (Kyldenna?) which occurred constantly throughout the week. The situation reached a climax on Thursday 14th September when it appeared to us that the two dogs had been left unattended overnight and were barking and howling continuously throughout the night; I have video footage taken at 06:37 Friday morning as an example of the situation which we found distressing from an animal welfare perspective and had seriously disturbed our sleep. It would seem that our concerns were not alone as the matter had been reported by someone to the RSPCA. Whilst packing up on Saturday morning at 09:30, I noticed a local RSPCA Officer speaking with a gentleman at the front door of the neighbouring cottage (Salvay?). I have just spoken with the RSPCA national helpline and understand that the situation on Thursday/Friday had been reported to them locally, that a case had been opened and an Officer had been sent (presumably the lady RSPCA Officer I noticed on Saturday morning?) to investigate the situation. Whilst the RSPCA was not in a position, due to Data Protection, to give me the case reference number and any update, the ‘Call Handler’ I spoke with a moment ago was able to share the above general information with me....I have just posted a 2nd letter to Sykes Cottages asking that my comments be treated as a formal complaint under the Complaint's Policy.
