About this property

Minafon is an exquisite 140-year-old semi-detached stone cottage set in the centre of Llangynog, a picturesque village nestled in the heart of the breathtaking Berwyn Mountains. This delightful and spacious cottage is traditionally styled with numerous lovely character features such as exposed ceiling beams, a winding wooden staircase, and antique decor. Arranged over three floors, it offers homely and comfortable accommodation suitable for couples, friends, or a family. Brimming with character, the cottage offers a cosy living room complete with brass ornamentation and a stone fireplace. The living room leads into an airy dining room which is open to the bright and sunny kitchen overlooking a lush garden. The cottage features two bedrooms. The main bedroom, on the first floor, boasts a luxurious king-size bed and enjoys a scenic outlook over the village to the spectacular mountain scenery beyond. The second bedroom is a charming attic room with exposed purlins, sloping ceilings, and a skylight offering a captivating view. Both bedrooms are serviced by a modern first-floor bathroom overlooking the nearby hills. A wonderful addition to this unique cottage is a cosy snug accessed just off the first floor landing area. The snug makes an ideal spot to sit and finish that book, or just enjoy some peace and quiet taking in the lovely views. The cottage has a beautiful rear garden complete with decorative motifs inspired by Welsh folklore, where you can sit and relax at the start or end of an exciting day. The cottage is a stone’s throw from Llangynog’s two historic village pubs, where you can dine alfresco or enjoy an evening drink under a parasol and watch the sun go down behind the mountains. Minafon’s location in the stunning Tanat Valley makes it a superb base for walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers and climbers, with an excellent mountain bike facility on the doorstep. Rhaeadr Waterfall, the highest single drop waterfall in the UK, is very close by. You can also enjoy a trip to Llyn Tegid, the largest natural lake in Wales and home to a wide selection of watersports including sailing, windsurfing, and kayaking. The cottage is also within easy reach of several charming towns, including Bala with its famous lake, Llangollen with its wonderful canal, Oswestry with its delightful antiques centres, and the medieval market town of Shrewsbury. However you decide to spend your holiday, Minafon is a fantastic base to be enjoyed at any time of the year

Llangynog lies amidst the Berwyn Mountains and surrounding wooded hills and valleys. The area has a history of lead, silver and slate mining dating back to the 17th Century but today it is a renowned location for climbing, birdwatching, walking and cycling, with famous mountain bike trails near Dolgellau, and a mountain bike centre at Llandegla.
