    About this property

Get away from it all in this peacefully set, quaint cottage in the mountains, close to abundant wildlife.
Nestled in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park, this characterful and quirky, terraced Welsh cottage is situated in the quiet village of Cwm Penmachno. It has a cosy wood burner to keep you warm on the coldest of nights, and although there is no Wi-Fi, mobile phone signal or TV reception, the owner provides a great choice of DVDs to watch – or you can take your own. You can also take your bike and ride one of the many bike trails in the area (bike hire is available nearby), or go walking in the Gwydyr Forest and see the fantastic wildlife! Thrill seekers will love Zip World Fforest, with its amazing treetop nets, in the pretty village of Betws-y-Coed, whilst you can do the same at Bounce Below in Blaenau Ffestiniog but deep underground in an old slate cavern, or even soar overhead on the world’s largest zip wire zone! If you’re a surf dude, then Surf Snowdonia, the world’s first artificial surfing lagoon, is only 16 miles away and is great for catching a wave, or a coffee and a cake! The Ffestiniog Railway, Portmeirion and Porthmadog are all within easy reach, as is Conwy and Llandudno. Shop and restaurant 8 miles, pub 4 miles.
    Ground Floor:
Living/dining room: With wood burner, 23" TV (for DVD use only), DVD player and a selection of DVDs, beams and slate floor.

"Maybe we should have looked into the property further but we just didn’t anticipate how far from the main road it was. It became a family joke that it would take 15-20 mins to get back to “civilisation” when we went out, and it was such a drudge when coming back after a day out exploring - there was certainly no popping back out after tea or taking a stroll down to the local! Not having TV or internet didn’t bother us but the feeling of isolation did. Also it’s very important to note that it doesn’t suit a family of four at all (as per the description) unless the two children are under 12 years old. My 15 year old had to sleep downstairs as one of the beds are only accessible to those who are small/short. The double bed has no support to the mattress whatsoever which didn’t suit my husband with spinal issues. In the end we managed to check in for two nights somewhere else and cut our holiday short, so we stayed 4 out of 7 nights at the cottage - we just couldn’t tolerate the isolation any longer. We left a bag of kindling and a bag and half of firewood we had purchased for the next lodgers to enjoy - but be mindful of the fumes which gave us all headache unless we kept the door open! (CO2 detectors are in situ). Not for us. We won’t be returning to Cwm Penmachno!"

"We had a fabulous holiday. The cottage was well equipped and comfortable. The lack of a phone signal or working t.v wasnt a problem for us. The surrounding area is stunning and peaceful. The neighbours were friendly and helpful. Travelling is required for all amenities and activities so people need to make sure they arrive well stocked with provisions and fuel. There was lots to do and the highlight for us was the Go Below challenge. It was a true holiday in every sense, no intrusive social media , phone ,tv,traffic, hustle, bustle or schedules."

"Beautiful cottage & place the only thing I would say is it could do with a TV Ariel it was nice having no wifi & mobile phone signal but it would of been nice to have a bit of TV not just dvd's"

"Awesome location, many walks on door step. Great if you want to take your dog away and enjoy quiet time. Bewts y coed about 15-20 min drive where you can get food, grill bar and hangin pizza place pretty good although on the expensive side. Exploring the disused mine was interesting and plenty of great mountain biking around the cottage and all over north wales. No WiFi or phone line, no phone signal, however this is in the advertisement."

"A return visit to this lovely cottage which enables us to hit the pause button on the fast pace of modern life. No TV signal, WiFi or phone signal is such a pleasure.... Our children found plenty else to do and we enjoyed the beautiful countryside. We have been many times to this part of North Wales and never tire of it, we hope we can return to this lively rural retreat again next year...."

    "Could be stunning"

"We spent a fab week at this lovely, quirky cottage. The location is great for hill walking, with amazing trails (ie. Snowdonia slate trail) literally on the doorstep. Beautiful place both in the sunshine and under the snow. The cottage was homely, and pet-friendly which was a plus. The logburner will keep you cosy on cold evenings - make sure you have enough wood for the first night though... bring extra clothes in winter, and prepare for (lots of) rain anytime. Don't expect city luxury, shops, tv, phone signal or internet. The equipment is basic, but sufficient. The owner was amazing and handled my silly requests most kindly and efficiently ! Cycling sadly wasn't possible due to the weather, otherwise it should be a great activity in the area. The cottage really is recommended for walkers and nature loving folks, or those who want a break far away from the crowds, in simplicity. We would absolutely love to come back again."
