About this property

Complimentary Welcome Hamper

A complimentary welcome hamper will be awaiting you on your arrival containing milk, tea, fresh coffee, bread, butter, eggs, juice, wine and cheese, along with other essential items to prepare a light snack or breakfast. There may be some regional variations.

This beautiful and spacious self-contained wing of Farningham House has been built in the classic late Georgian style with high ceilings, large windows which overlook the well stocked gardens and is full of period features. Accommodating two guests, it is the perfect romantic retreat.

Farningham Village lies in the heart of the Darent Valley on the edge of the Kent Downs - an area of outstanding natural beauty, much loved by walkers and only 20 miles from London. Once famous for its hop fields, the valley is now home to a thriving vineyard and acres of lavender fields, both of which do well on our chalky slopes. In the centre of the village sits Farningham Mill, a fine Georgian water mill recently converted to small apartments which overlook the trout stream and retain many of the original working parts of the corn mill.

From the bridge by the Mill, you will see the old cattle screen that dates from the mid-18th Century and the Lion Hotel which used to be the meeting point for the local hunt. The Darent Valley path (which begins on the banks of the River Thames) passes by this point and on to Lullingstone, where the country park surrounds Lullingstone Castle and the World Garden.

For those not wanting to explore too far, there’s an excellent village pub, The Pied Bull, opposite Farningham House just a stone's throw away.

We had a perfect weekend getaway. The place is full of Georgian elegance, and - although it is not far from the main roads and very easily accessible, the atmosphere is very peaceful in the charming historic village centre of Farningham. The Wing was comfortably set up with every detail attended to and, in spite of its high ceilings, warm and cosy. The area has so many things to do for all weathers; although it was a wet weekend we were not short of enjoyable activities - lots of National Trust and other (dry!) places of interest nearby, as well as some stunning countryside - and we were able to relax in front of the wonderful open fire at the end of the day. We'd happily return!
